Hi

I’ve just setup my Rega RP1 turntable, Rega Foni mini A2D phono amp, Nad L75 receiver and B&W DM303 in our new house and have a bad buzzing when over half volume

It never did this in our old place, only difference in the setup is there’s less connected to the receiver and it’s on a different surface

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Vibration through the turntable. Put it on some fabric or get some pads for its feet and that should remedy it

Not easy to say without hearing the 'buzzing' first hand.

Resonance / mechanical vibration and an earth loop are both possible. Seems odd that that you mention half volume though.........what is the buzz like below half volume.

The earth loop should be there irrespective of whether the platter is rotating..........stopping the platter by hand whilst the TT is playing should tell you what is causing the issue. If it's an earth loop it will still be there with the platter stationary it is an earth issue..............if you can stop the spurious noise by the damping the Rega's plinth with your hand when playing a track then it suggests the problem is mechanical resonance.

Thanks for the replies

It’s not a vibration noise, buzzing is there when the turntable isn’t rotating or even switched on, disappears when the phono amp has no power though, which seems to suggest it’s an earth problem.

Below half volume there is no buzzing.

The phono amp has an earth point on the front but the receiver has nowhere to connect too.

Would it be safe to run a single core cable from the phono amp to a 13amp socket to earth it?

There should be an earth wire from the turntable tonearm that should be connected to the phono preamp.

Thanks for the links

Creating a ground to 13amp plug from the phono amp worked
