Wireless subwoofer on a sound bar
Discussion
Does anyone have experience of using a soundbar on a TV with a wireless subwoofer behind a sofa? That's the short version, and here's the longer version :
We have an Orbitsound M9 soundbar connected to our TV which has a wireless subwoofer. For a long time the subwoofer was only about 1m from the soundbar with no obstructions and worked flawlessly, however we were using it less and less due to the fact the subwoofer could only really sit in an alcove of the wall joined to our neighbour and we didn't want to disturb them with loud, boomy films. I tried relocating the subwoofer to behind the sofa on the opposite site of the room but when it's there, it cuts out frequently. Long out of warranty by then I did a bit of research and found it was fairly common and one possible fix was to fit an external antenna to the wireless module in the subwoofer, which I did. It seemed to reduce the cutting out but it still happens, and I think I've become more sensitive to it now - any prolonged bass and I find myself waiting for it to drop, which somewhat spoils the viewing experience. Clearly the sofa (metal frame, electric recliner) causes a blockage.
When we last had a carpet fitted in the room I installed some cabling from the back of the TV area to the back of the sofa to preempt the purchase of a more reliable wired subwoofer, but soundbars with wired subwoofers seem to have disappeared from the face of the Earth. So now I am left with questions for the PH audience, namely;
1. Does anyone know of a soundbar with a wired subwoofer on sale today? And do you have any experience of it?
2. Can anyone recommend a soundbar with a wireless subwoofer which will absolutely not drop out ever, even when placed behind a large sofa about 3m from the soundbar?
Our house is small and semi-detached so I don't need anything cinema-esque, sound quality is more important than volume, just a single small soundbar and a separate subwoofer, single optical input is all I need. I'd feel better with a wired subwoofer as the possibility of cutting out is eliminated and I already have the wiring done but I'm open to suggestions!

Have a look at the Yamaha range. The entry-level product is the YAS107. This has a subwoofer output. Many of the higher range YSP products have this too. Of the product I've sold and installed, the partnering Yamaha subs have both Bluetooth and a wired connection. This gives you the option of wireless or a wired connection. 1. Some of their products are available with- and without- subs, so you have the option of whether you use theirs or a third party sub. BK makes excellent subs. Their entry-level Gemini II plays bass notes rather than just thumping. They sell direct which makes them excellent value too.
Thank you all, we do have a couple of Bose speakers and I always liked their speakers. Glad to hear there is a wired option - I had wondered if it was just my particular speaker which wasn't working well or if wireless was just overrated and I was too sensitive before I spent more money. I'll also look at the Yamaha gear, thank you for that.
