Monitor Audio MR6 or ?
Discussion
Looking for opinions some floor standers.
How do people rate the Monitor Audio MR6? I can get a new pair for around equivalent of 300pounds.
Other options I am considering are Dali Spektor 6 or Oberon 5 at a stretch.
Anything else to consider it the upto 700ish pounds bracket. I'm in Europe so anything in the UK will have VAT/tarriff complications , but doable id the supplier will knock off VAT at purchase I suppose.
Will be for a mix of music/tv/gaming.
I have an old Sony STR-DA2400 AVR that I'm still pretty happy using. Currently have Acoutic Energy Aegis bookshelf & centre. Recent move to a bigger house means an upgrade is possible.
Cheers

I'm a fan of the MA sound and have tested quite a few over the years.
For the budget I think I'd be seeking out an RS6 rather than an MR6. It may be an older speaker but a better, higher quality design. They don't command too much of a premium mostly because there are so many of them. The reason there are so many of them is because they sold a lot of them!
I tested a set in 2008 and was mightily impressed. I A/B tested them with a MA Bronze at the same time and the difference was staggering.
I couldn't afford a new pair at the time and went for a Silver 8i, which is even older technology but still gave a very authoritative performance.
I further upgraded these to the MA GS20 five years ago but that was also part of an amp / cd upgrade to Musical Fidelity.

I've had a pair of RS6 (American Cherry finish, Biwired) since around 04-06 & absolutely love them. Small footprint, really nicely made & good punchy, tight, pacey sound with a decent amount of bass considering they are pretty compact. The rest of my gear is the same age: Cyrus CD8X, Cyrus 8, Cyrus interconnect, QED cable & Sony SDB900 DAB/FM. I mainly listen to guitar driven music & this combination is has a good pacey, lively, midrange, but also does fine with dance, electronic, folk, classical, opera, jazz etc. It's on pretty much all day, every day. Not treated with kid gloves either: they're in an open plan kitchen diner, so pick up splashes, cooking smoke, dog hairs, general household awkward corner crud, get knocked with the hoover, brushed past. Quick wipe with a dishcloth & squirt of furniture polish when I can remember is as good as they get & they look perfect still. For the budget I think I'd be seeking out an RS6 rather than an MR6. Sorry I can't remember what else I listened to when I was buying. Good luck. Chs, CF
I can recommend MA as a brand and have been using a pair of Bronze 5's for about 3 and a half years.. They partner a Marantz CD6004 PM6004 system and in my opinion, sound really good!
Have been considering upgrading the Marantz gear for some Musical Fidelity, but am yet to press that particular button.....!
