Hi all, turned our TV on this evening and I think it’s pooped. It’s 8 years old and has been brilliant, from what I remember it’s 42” 400hz Samsung thingymajiggy

This is the picture we are getting..

Now, we have a tv unit built and unfortunately Mrs P was in when the carpenter measured up, so the largest TV I can get is 120cm wide, having looked online that equates to a 49” tv. There’s no budging with this size it has to be 49” as you can see below.

For what we need I have a PS5, sky tv and that’s about it.

Price wise I have no idea, would obviously love a sub £500 TV but also don’t mind spending a bit more.

I’m so out of touch with TV’s that I don’t even know where to begin, the only thing I’ve seen is the PS5 is HDMI 2.1?

Thanks for any help and advice.

Looks like a T-Con board failure. Take the back off, check the model number, buy one on ebay. Probably about £25.

So i took it apart today.

Will try and order a new T-Con board. I also noticed that these straps are damaged. Could that be the issue too?

You can see the gold filament has come away from the strap in parts

Ok. Going to get a new TV and put this one in another room when I have found the parts to fix it.

So 49” TV,

Is this the best bang for your buck I can get?

Whatever you decide, Richer Sounds offer a six year warranty for the same price. Worth it with modern TVs.

Yes, could be as simple as those connectors. Often boards come with the connectors, or ask the seller if they have them. Even as a spare telly, it's better to rescue it for £25 than tip it. You could sell it for more than that.

wax lyrical

Ok so I’ve managed to bribe mrs p, thinking of getting this now https://www.costco.co.uk/Electronics-Security/Tele... (contacted richer sounds to price match).

I have a few questions.

My tv is in the unit posted above, it sits opposite a window and I’ve heard OLED’s are bad with reflections?

If this is the case am I better off with a QLED?

I don’t mind spending £1k ish now.

The CX is supposed to be far better than the BX with reflections, because it's a brighter screen.

Nice, congrats, it’s supposed to be an excellent television. My 55” BX arrives today, also from Richer Sounds. It is replacing a 43” Samsung LED so I’m expecting a significant step up in picture quality.

Noticed today that Costco are doing good deals on certain OLED models. Only until the 16th though. Haven't them that price before. 5 year warranty from Costco too.

They've price matched to the Argos deals on Wednesday, and they sold out straightaway!

Nice, I had a look at the BX but went for the CX instead.

From what I can gather sound and brightness are better on the CX. Mine will be going in a position that doesn't get any sunlight, other than early in the morning, and I'm adding a Sonos Arc for sound. Both undoubtedly very good TVs for the money, and it's great they've brought out a smaller version for the CX.

Been looking at soundbars today, especially the beam.

Will it work ok if it’s on the shelf above the tv? Or would you suggest maybe getting another shelf installed below the TV?

Managed to grab the refurbed Sonos beam for £240 with unidays discount.

It’s here if anyone’s interested.
