I am shocked.

I had a few fingerprints on the screen and attempted to clean off with a damp cloth ( no cleaning agent ) and in seconds I have removed the anti glare!! I have had Samsung’s before and never seen this. It is ruined and I am furious at what I have done. What should I do.

Ring John Lewis/Samsung of claim on insurance.

Picture is fine, love TV and the one connect system but on black screen or when off it make my blood boil and teeth itch.

Was it a brand new cloth?, if not it could have had some previous cleaner on it.

What does the manual say about cleaning the screen, is a damp cloth ok or does it have to be a dry cloth?

Pretty weird that would happen with a damp cloth though.

I'd check what it says in the warranty about returns and accidental damage and then play dumb and put a claim through JL, they are probably one of the better companies to deal with and hopefully will sort it.

I did the same on a Panasonic TV a few years ago, after I stupidly let the Christmas tree sit too close to it. A branch was touching the screen & left a deposit on it. I rubbed it off, taking the bloody coating off as well.

It didn't effect the viewing, so I just left it. Chewed myself a new one over being so stupid though... Those coatings are very feaigle. boxedin

From the Samsung site ....

Do not use water unless the instructions that came with your TV say otherwise, and only use water on the portion of the TV that the instructions say to use it on.

Seems pretty bad that water could do that but there you go!

It says spray onto cloth and not screen. Ok I originally wiped with a damp sponge and then moved onto micro fibre cloth.

The way it came off so easy is a joke.

I’ve cleaned my previous Samsung before and never had this issue

Resale value is ruined. Reading on the net I think this is a known issue on later Samsung’s , beware.

In my experience TV's don't have much of a resale value anyway. Tech movies on so fast by the time you have finisher with a TV & upgraded it it's worth pennies. Hence why I have a 50" up in the garage!!

If the picture is fine, is it an option to just remove the anti glare on the whole screen so at least it looks uniform ??

If I would remove the remainder it would look awful.

Love the TV and I got it for £800 as it was a return (£1299 new) so if I do return it I will have to pay £500 extra for replacement. The one connect box is brilliant as no wires. Not sure if any other manufacturers do this

A few threads online say there’s a protective film that needs peeling off, have you already done that?

Are you sure you've stripped something off rather than smeared something on?

I clean my 2019 model Samsung Q9FN with a new microfibre moistened with IPA (Isopropyl Alchohol) and never had an issue. Use VERY LIGHT pressure. Give that a go in case you've actually smeared something onto the screen

Surely IPA is likely to strip any coatings off?!?

No it doesn’t. Like I said I use it myself and the are plenty of online examples of its use (e.g. https://youtu.be/MZETvROPKjs)

This.

I have a Samsung UE55JU6500. I also use a damp microfibre cloth. Light horizontal wipe top to bottom and wipe immediately with a dry Korean micro buffing cloth I use on the car. No issues.

Does the wife dust it?

It's good that she's still lovely in your eyes! I bet that smarted though at the time.

Claimed on insurance, £200 excess so they have transferred £850 to me. A great result. So I will buy the new 2020 model to replace it

What do I do with the old one, I will offer it for sale but not sure how much to sell it for. I was thinking £400, comes with 5 year warranty, receipt etc. Picture is amazing and live the fact it has the one connect box and it’s a must that the new one has it.

I will never go near the screen ever again ans wear gloves when installing it
