Hi, anyone on here had any dealings with this online retailer?

https://www.directnine.uk/products/ion-audio-tape-...

Are they reliable/genuine?

I’m just after a cassette deck, nothing fancy, to play my old tapes from the 80’s and maybe convert some to digital mp3 or the like.

This one has been available on Amazon, but its not currently.

Any advice would be useful, thanks.

I am getting the heebeegeebies about this one.

I can't see what the actual name of the trading company is, with nothing showing up on Companies House or Duedil for 'Directnine'.
Trustpilot has some very unhappy people claiming scams.

The five star reviews look very fake to me too. For example take Konnor Valenzuela. A google search shows up some seemingly genuine people with that name, but none are the same person as this Konnor on Trustpilot. Nothing else comes up. So his only footprint is as a reviewer, always 5 star, of stuff online.
Very suspect.

The contast tickettape news of purchases screams fake.

So not with a bargepole, sorry...

If I were you I would give them a call on the number they show - 01304 807999
Though I cannot find any business or person linked to this number.

ETA - why not buy a cheapie tape player from Ebay and a ADC to convert the output into digital.

I use a Rega phono preamp, which just happens to have an ADC and a USB out, to record vinyl onto my laptop using Audacity.
Total cost would be less than that Directnine tape deck.

Agreed- wouldnt touch with a barge pole.

Lots of people on trustpilot saying that the number and email address/contact forms go nowhere and have nothing to show for their money months later.

Ussually if you have to ask if it's a genuine seller, then you already know the answer.

Even online shops that are new to the market tend not to start with a shiny website. They will sell through ebay, etsy and amazon marketplace so you will always be able to find a decent back catalogue of orders and customers to satisfy yourself. These guys seem pretty fishy.

Cheers guys

One to avoid then.

I don’t have an eBay account, but I’m sure I’ll find something somewhere else.

Thanks for the insight.

Just came acrosd this lot.

They're clearly US based as their return policy breaches the Consumer Rights Act.

Would avoid

They are actually Middle Eastern based.

Come up against them a few times with kit i can supply, but their pricing is ridiculous. UK / Amazon pricing is like 100% over the US retail.

New kit arriving in the new year and i'll be wiping the floor with them.
