Roku Soundbridge Replacement
Discussion
For the last few years I have used a Roku Soundbridge connected to my Rotel amp and B&W speakers for streaming radio and connecting to my NAS-based music library.
It sounds great and I love the display showing track playing and artist without having to mess around with apps etc. The problem is that the technology is probably getting on for 10 years old and as such doesn't support Spotify and the like.
I know the default replacement would be a Sonos Connect but I really want something that displays basic track and artist info on the unit.
Any ideas?

I bought an original Roku Soundbridge but ended up migrating to a Sonos Connect for Spotify, etc.
I like the Roku as it just works, the Sonos is a PITA because I don't use the wifi but connect an ethernet cable, this makes connecting the app on the tablet to it a real pain.
Once connected it works fine but getting there can be a pain.

It doesn't have a display but other than that you can't go far wrong with a Chromecast Audio.
I bought one to play with when they were on offer at 15 quid, i had no intentions of it being a permanent replacement for my various squeezebox devices but it kind of has done. I still have the squeezebox server and a few playback devices but using the CCA is so easy it gets used all the time.
If you have less than 50K tracks of music you can upload your entire collection to Google music. Brilliant bit of kit, I'll say it again for emphasis, mine cost me 15quid each.

Yep I've still got mine and despite its age I love it, it's just a great device.
I've got mine configured using IP ,and have it set up to listen to streaming internet radio as welll as the music on my NAS drive too.
Here's the IP config setup :-

so it seems rook turned off the servers at their end.

as a result all the stations we all had and kept listening too seem to no longer work.

Odd! Will try again!
So a few days ago my Roku screen went blank I assumed it had finally died after 16 years of use.
However I thought it might be worth checking the power supply brick first, and sure enough it had dropped from 5v to just 1.3v
So a quick rummage in one of my man drawers full of cables and power supplies, and an old Netgear Wi-fi PSU was found , Correct voltage and the perfect DC power connector too.
All good and working again, even remembered all the home Wi-fi mesh settings too.
Perhaps it will last another 16 years again !

The external psu on mine died, had generic 5v/1a supplies kicking around at work so replaced the DC connector on one and all sorted.
ah yes Indeed bud!Not sure if I posted but I bought mine in a bestbuy sale in boston back in the day when I worked for a Boston based software company.
I’m pretty sure it was like $99.00 in the bestbuy bargain bin, so never really expected it to last this long.
Also the power supply brick it came
With was tiny, about the same size as a small box of matches, and despite being bought in boston, so US 110V it’s also said it supported 110-250V ac as an input, which was kind of surprising.
I did try another PSU, which said it was 240AC in, 5V DC out, which worked ok, but also I checked the voltage output which was closer to 15V, which made the luminescent display flicker, so thought it might kill the main unit so stopped using that pretty quickly!
Seems fine on this PSU now!
My Roku has died again.
I suspect it’s the power supply as the display has been flickering for some time.
I really don’t want to get rid of it if I can it’s been one of those devices that just works, well at least when the power supplies work that is!
I’ve got tons of spare power supplies knocking around thing is it needs to have a really nice clean smooth stable power supply output .
