The best sounding (produced/mastered) tracks/albums

If you like that one, try “Laughing Stock”, also by Talk Talk …. It’s a fantastic sounding album ..!
This pushes the discordant sparse atmospheric stuff too far for me. Spirit of Eden is a decent half way house between Laughing Stock and Colour of Spring. However Colour of Spring is my favourite and IMO is the best sounding of the bunch as well.MC Bodge said:
"The Colour of Spring" album by Talk Talk has always sounded good to me.
One of my Desert Island Discs, the drum beat on the opening track has mesmerised me for 30 years. My offering, The Trinity Session by the Cowboy Junkies. Recorded on a single microphone in a church in Toronto in 1986....The most hauntingest laid backness you'll ever need.
And yes, Solid Air by John Martin.

That is a great track. Thank you.Etherwood's eponymous drum and bass album.
Beautifully done. I am currently trialling a subwoofer with my system, and it's just gorgeously done production that really lets me play with the sub and see exactly what it is up to.
It's also good, chilled music, yet with plenty of attack in mids and treble, and a decent level of complexity with different elements going at different places. And the vocals are good too.

I've just listened to some of that. It is surprisingly good.Beautifully done. I am currently trialling a subwoofer with my system, and it's just gorgeously done production that really lets me play with the sub and see exactly what it is up to.

You're welcome!
If you have a capable subwoofer, it really brings the album alive. Having just concluded trials with my SVS AV sub, which now goes back to the TV room, I have just ordered their 3000 Micro for the hifi system.
Etherwood have cost me money.

Right. I've lurked in this thread long enough.
First, there's some outstanding choices here everyone, and it's been great to discover some artists I've never heard before, so thank you.
Second, to recap some earlier comments: AC/DC Live is one of life's joys. Each and every track is faithfully performed with such an energy, specially Shoot To Thrill and Sin City. Also, I'd forgotten just how much Tinita Tikaram's voice gave me goosebumps.
And to my choices - this is about as random a list as you're going to get; Don't judge me.
Metallica - The Black Album, specifically Wherever I May Roam; Master of Puppets, Damage, Inc.
Faith No More - Epic
Slayer - Seasons In The Abyss
Hans Zimmer - Time, From Inception; (Deep Breath) What Are You Going To Do When You're Not Saving The World, From Man of Steel
The Prodigy - Stand Up
The Kills - Goodnight Bad Morning
Welshy Arms - Legendary
Norah Jones - Don't Know Why
Robbie Williams - Feel
Eminem - Space Bound
Massive Attack - Teardrop
Weezer - Pork & Beans
The Darkness - Growing On Me
Lenny Kravitz - Rock & Roll is Dead
Oasis - Cigarettes & Alcohol
Bryan Adams - It's Only Love
Sugababes (Yes, really) - Ace Reject
Vitalic - Poison Lips (From the raid scene in Dredd)
New Order - Pretty much anything, but exceptionally, of course, Blue Monday, True Faith, Round & Round
INXS - New Sensation
I'll stop now - be here all day otherwise.

I am going to widen the brief here and strongly recommend the film 'Drive' with Ryan Gosling.
It's a great film full stop, but the soundtrack and the way it interplays with the film is superb, and IIRC there are sections of the film with under-5Hz content for those with big systems that are capable (!).

It is a great soundtrack. I don't remember much detail of the film. It's a great film full stop, but the soundtrack and the way it interplays with the film is superb
I recall that somebody also produced an alternative soundtrack for it, for some reason, and it was broadcast.

I recall seeing a short segment of it and thinking it was nowhere near as good as the original.

I have a small underseat subwoofer in the car and it sounded quite good on that earlier. If you have a capable subwoofer, it really brings the album alive. Having just concluded trials with my SVS AV sub, which now goes back to the TV room, I have just ordered their 3000 Micro for the hifi system.

I have a small subwoofer in the kitchen (fairly good acoustics) and it sounded quite good there.
I've built a DIY sealed sub and when the sub amp arrives I'll thoroughly test it.
