However they do seem to down play the rates somewhat for more senior placements.
Depends on what industry you are looking at.

Thanks chaps.
I've just returned from Singapore and am now suffering from "post Raffles brunch blues" and moving out on a full time basis is at the top of my agenda at the moment.
I'm currently operating at a director level in the uk but am happy to come back in at a consultant (operational) level abroad, just need to work out how much money I will have to play with for the first six months.
Worst case I could live with the in laws for a while but would quite like to get my own place sorted asap.

Not without a Visa you won't...Wont get a telephone without an employment pass
etc etc - everything is tied to your EP or NRIC Card, dont have, cannot get.
as a tourist you will be given a 3 month entry stamp these days, but will need to stay at friends / cash in hand flat shares / hotels which will all start to add up

Sounds like the rental wouldn't be an issue if he's staying with the inlaws. I'm still on my stty Samsung that the missus got me so she could track me down when I get "lost". But other than that, no bank account, and no work Wont get a telephone without an employment pass
