COE at $65k, 'kin hell!!!!
Discussion
Cars getting proper expensive again in Singapore!!!!
COE prices up to teh value that they were when i first came here 12 years ago!!! Remember back then i had a POS Toyota Corona that was worth $150k and that was the cheapest bag of ste on the road!!!
Looks like the cheapie China and Korea manufacturers will not be shifting many more cars when COE is more than the after tax price of the car!
Also going to make for some very cheap older cars for export as COE reniewals will be beyond realistic spending!
Is this Singapore returning to the days when the Merc E class was the most common car on the road and people were paying $100,000 COE's?
At least the congestion will go down

Wow! That is unbelievable!
they are releasing less and less COE against number of cars being exported. Good as far as i am concerned, i have 9 1/2 years left on the Datsun and 9 years left on the Porker and it can only get better for me ... higher COE = less cars = clearer roads!!
Might even make the Porker worth a little more once bonuses come out!

I thought the number of cars will stay more or less the same? Then again, who will buy a $100k Toyota Corolla?
They are releasing something like 10% less COE's than cars scrapped at the moment so are slowly reducing the numbers of cars on the road. Might make a profit on the Z but that will all get eaten upin the uplit of buying the next car so think i will keep the yellow peril!!
John, do you add the COE to the price of the car? So in this advert, is the overall cost $99,800 plus $13,301? (And then tax/radio license)?

the $99,800 is the all in price for the car with whatever remains of the COE (about 6 years in this case) plus any road tax left. http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.php?ID=130...
He is saying that the COE cost $13,301 when the car was bought.
The idea behind this is that you are effectively buying 2 things - the car and teh COE, so that you can calculate the potential shell value and make a stab at any PARF rebate amounts.
eta - barge-tastic Lexarse, but a bit too "old Chinaman done good" for you isn't it?

This is a bit more like it - might make those shopping trips to Tanglin Mall a bit more pleasant...http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.php?ID=123...

Perhaps shop at Giant and NTUC a bit more and spend the difference on this ...

a shed is still a shed, even in Singapore!!!!
Ture enough, but I still ragged it for a year and made a profit on it when I sold it on ;-)XJSJohn said:
anyway, COE's went up again on second bidding, now $74k for open!!!
That's about where they were when I was first in Singapore, utter madness. I'd hate to think what the 4.2 V8 I'm thinking of buying next week would set me back over there I'll!XJSJohn said:
Hows life?
Life is good, I had the summer off & I'm working in Paris at the moment so I get home every weekend with the hope that this job will see me through the winter and I'll take the summer off again! How goes it with you?If someone suggested giving £18k for an 11 year old Impreza, I'd laugh.
Yet here is one in Singapore and I'm starting to think it looks cheap:

-must resist!-
I'm also starting to think that 1.6 cars could be fun. Particularly if it's got variable valve timing.
-eeek-
Signs of pikeyness emerging. Danger. Danger.

Just be aware that you will probably only get third party cover as it is over 10 years old.
Sadly SWMBO has banned turbo rice rockets. It all stems from the day I took her out in an Evo IX (a 'mere' 260bhp one). Three times in one journey people changed lanes in front of us, not realising that 100m from coming off a roundabout an Evo in the outside lane can be travelling at warp speed and their shed won't. Great brakes though.
