Hi,

Staying with friends from next Tues morn until Sat afternoon, visiting from Dubai.

Picking up a DSLR whilst I'm there, Nikon D90 which the people I am staying with have priced up for me and comes out cheaper than what we pay here.

i am having trouble sourcing class 10 SD cards here (Dubai) so might just get them when I get the camera but I had heard that the price of accessories is relatively high compared to kit, that's where they make the money.

Looking forward to haggling on the price of the camera and lense (very accepted part of buying here), can hopefully work in some freebies with it (thinking card, bag etc) unless anyone thinks this will be a no go?

Another friend who I will be meeting there says the big electronics malls are not necessarily the places to look, is this true?

Any advice gladly accepted.

Itinerary for the trip is as follows...

Tuesday

Land 7.15
Camera Shopping/general mooch
China Town

- Singapore Eye thing
- Marina Bay sands hotel thingy

Evening still free, maybe Raffles here?

Wednesday

Botanical Gardens
Singapore Zoo
Night Safari (optional)

Thursday

Sentosa Island
• Universal studios
• Underwater world
• Carlsberg Tower

Dinner/drinks with People we staying with

Friday

Shopping
Evening – big night out

Saturday
Fly back @ 12:50

XJSJohn will be along shortly, but I reckon Funan Mall is your best bet. Haggling is not the norm in Singapore, but you can probably get them down on a DSLR package if you're paying cash.

Marina Bay Sands - not been there yet, you should also try 1 Altitude at UOB Centre for the views (highest alfresco bar in the world apparently). The Gardens, Zoo and Safari are excellent, I'm less sold on Sentosa and have heard that Universal Studios is a bit gash. You may want to go up Mt Faber for dinner one night.

What?! haggling is half the fun!

Will come around with a fistful of Dollars so hoping that will help my cause somewhat.

SWMBO has kind of dictated the itinerary to Universal Studios will have to stay, have heard mixed reports myself but will console myself with the fact that is has to better than sitting in the office.

Thanks for the feedback re Funan mall.

The only stuff I've found to haggle on is tailoring and AV stuff, so I'm sure you can have some fun - just don't be dissapointed if you don't get mega discounts.

The best thing about Funan is that you have plenty of shops to play off against each other re price. Plenty of fun shiney things to look at, and there is even a Tokyo style maid cafe on the foodcourt level if you like that kind of thing smile

As a side note, is there any tax back option there for tourists?

I know if I bought in the UK I could claim the VAT back if I wanted to at the airport.

Cheers

ETA - yes, google is my friend smile
