Well mate, I don't know much about this but I do know I am off to talk to my currency trader woman person at the bank and China was one of the things i wanted to discuss as my gut is telling me it is a good bet at the moment...

I will always convert back to UK though as i will go back at some point...

The thing is John, not only do you have currency risk, you are also introducing a whole load of political risk - nothing to stop the chinese telling foreign investors to GTFO at any point.

I see GBP and USD as being dead ducks for the next decade whilst this all unwinds to be honest - the investment money will keep feeding into Asia as investor's seek returns.

The question as ever, is when do you get out of it?

(Much as I said to myself about the Singapore Airlines cutie I met on Halowe'en...)

He loved me on Saturday night!! I was also dating an ex Emirates girl for 6 years, but she had nothing on the SA one (well apart from being caucasion and having a great rack).

Why did god forget the boobies when he got to Asia????

Well that went off on a tangent hehe

Bing o you are right about the fact that china could just tell investors to fk off, but my plan was to be buying hard currency RMB rather than any clever investment vehicle! This is Asia after all and a suitcase if hard cash is what talks at the end of the day!!!

You are wrong however about god forgetting boobs when he got to Asia, there are plenty of ladies that are well endowed in the chest department lick

I take it that swmbo is nit around at the moment or has she become an ex swmbo ??

Don, interested to hear what your BoC bint has to say on the subject (of rmb not Asian ladies with big jabber clackers, although ........ Is she cute? Could be worth finding that out toosmile )

Long story!!

Back on the money side of things, I'd be tempted to look at spreading the risk a bit - does the INR or MYR not appeal - I believe they are starting to let foreign investors in a bit more? I think Vietnam has a lot of upside too, but then I'm new in these parts...

I am only looking at the equivalent of a grand SGD each month max ... It's more just something as an aside from my real investment portfolio, which is topped up by bonuses or lucky bd property sales (and the odd bank job of course!!!)

Already have quite a bit of capital in MYR anyway so probably not there

Edit - and no, don't think I will be going for the piston heads Iraq investment portfolio either!!! That's a bit too much risk for me!!

LOL!

Will let you know what my currency trading chick has to say... I am seeing her on Tuesday, so will report back on Wednesday as we are also going for dinner, Tuesday night. For some reason I still appear to be hung up on the tall, blonde caucasians!

I am sure I will come around at some point... Or everyone keeps telling me I will. Incidentally, the airhostess on SA from Friday was definitely a blend and far from what I would call a local. No idea how you go about finding one of 'em. She seemed adequately endowed!

So, yes, no more missus Dom9 after tonight frown She flies back to the UK!

Time we had a beer, I guess?!

I'll have a nose about at work, but I have to declare any investments I make, so no insider hanky panky for me. I have heard the odd mutter somewhere though...

The SA girl I had the pleasure of meeting was chinese malaysian - f'cking gorgeous, and a bloody good laugh to boot. 9 years younger too. Dang! Just as well this corner of the fora is a relative back water smile You can normally find them in Sluttica on a Wednesday, or the odd one kicking about in China 1...

Beers are always a good call. I think John's usually downtown on a Thursday night, but I usually have late calls at work.

Indeed - but I don't think you'll lose any money - I may have to buy a waving cat piggy bank to keep my RMB in...

LOL! This thread has gone way off track!

Next week for beers then?

Know another couple of like-minded individuals who might be interested.

Can then discuss RMB face to face wink

Sluttica is an awful place. Being a walk from home and the favourite haunt of many of my friends ; I find myself there all too regularly! Never made it to China 1 yet but Zouk, Zirca, Le Noire etc have all been 'visited'.

You know zirca must be classy when they name the place after a cheap tacky fake diamond!!

Next weekend is out for me, tied up with work, can do weekday evening though! Perhaps Thursday?
