I will shortly be moving to Hong Kong, and would like to investigate bringing my Aston Vantage Roadster with me...I hear it's very expensive, but how much would it cost me in HKD do we think?

The car in the UK is worth £60k

Thanks!

As noone else has replied I'll take a shoot, althought not an expert on HK. I'd say it is a no goer, try looking on the Hong Kong Classic Car Club Web site, The guys I know there all keep their race caers in the UK and ship them to Asia for the 6 month season, if it was poosible to get them into HK cheaply one of them would have done it and saved the annual shipping cost.

Welcome, the HK PH contingent has gone from strength to strength this year. I looked into bringing my maser over and gave up. It is possible but expensive. AM HK have an 06 coupe for $1.25m for sale to give you some idea of the value here. The registration duty will be expensive I can probably get a contact in HK who can help next week. They couldl handle shipping and registration. Road tax will be inline with uk circa 400gbp ish and petrol is more expensive. Will respond with more thoughts later. Good luck.

If possible, buy in Hong Kong. There are some decent deals to be made with expats coming in and out of the country who want to sell cars ASAP to avoid headaches. If you want a car for the track, buy one, don't get it registered and ship it to the track or keep it at/close to the Zhu Hai track.

Private Sales
Dealer Sales
"28 Car" Car Mall - Website in Chinese with AMV8 search results
"Car8" Car Mall - Website in Chinese with AMV8 search results
GP Motors - Never used them but they always seem to have a few cars listed.
European Motors - Stock isn't that great but they do source and sometimes have a TVR or Lotus (Chims and the only Tuscan in town floating around)

Tread very, very carefully with used car dealers in Hong Kong. There are a couple who are to be avoided like the plague and employ practices the shadiest of U.K dealers wouldn't dream about. PM me for details if needed.

To get an idea on the fees and taxes SEE HERE. Make sure you are not drinking anything when you get to the bottom of the page.

I bought a TVR in HK that was imported from the UK in April 2010, so the info that Euro motors are peddling is not true. The catch to importing is the declared value and the tax paid on it. If you sell an imported car and try to make a fast buck, you will be caught out when the transfer is made, as the declared market value will betaken into account on resale. If its above what the value stated upon importation, you will have to pay the difference when selling.
