Ok as it is so quit here I'll start a new topic.

Mrs B wants a car to replace the Peradua Kambara, she's had the Kamabara for 3 years it is in good condition. I will keep it and use it for my drive to work. It was her first car after she learned to drive and it has been first class, cheap to buy, (from an expat going home) reliable and cheap to run, but uses a bit of petrol for a 1300.

Budget wise I've told her she can have a brand new Peradua Mivi, which is around 50,000 Rm for agood spec, we will make a cash buy, she wants somthing othere than the Mivi, needs to be an Auto, so thoughts are,

328 E36 Bmw, there are some low mileage ones around but road tax is 1400 Rm a year. all around 97 year, she drove a 328 on a test drive and the 318 is now out of the question.
S4) Volvo, there are some nice 2002 ones around for the 50
Merc C Class, again looking at pre 2000 for the money
Audi A4, can get around a 2002, 1800 or 2 ltr for the money.
We want somthing small enough to park, and No Jap or Korean junk
or this

924 Porsche, looks great, off to see it saturday, top money by UK stds, but not bad here in Malaysia.
So what you think?
John it's for the wife so no 'not a real Porsche comments'. Road tax on the 924 would be around 200 Rm a year, insurance is not an issue, my mechanic has experience of the water cooled Porsches.

Think this would be worth the extra if you're thinking front engined water cooled pork:

Interesting exercise this. I would definitely try to avoid the Perodua/Proton crowd. The cars are okay (the Myvi is as reliable and cheap to run as they get), but literally half the cars on the road are Myvis (almost, anyway). That would drive me nuts.

Consider an Alfa, perhaps? A clean Selespeed 156 can be had for sub 50k, and would certainly be no less reliable than the 924. I would research on availability of old Porker spares here - if something as simple as an alternator or a radiator goes pop, you might be waiting a while to get a replacement.

An old Volvo is a good idea. Find something with a T5 for a bit of fun.

Consider the E36 325. It's got the six at least, and nothing like the completely gutless 318. Or for 60k+ get an M3 (did they come with slush boxes?). Yummm...

Hi, Dead lock, Alfa is a good Idea, not seen an M3 for anything like 60, there was a 329 with a M3 engine for sale for 65, The water cooled spares are no problem many of the Bosch bits are form the Volvo 240, and there are loads of them, alternators etc are any easy change to Jap stuff, I must admit I fancy the Porsche, my mechanis has a few 944 he looks after so I'm not worried on that,
Your dead right on the Mivi I think more than halv the cars are Mivi's.
Where In Kl are you?

firstly, hey i am no porsche purist ... i love the front engined wet cars too biggrin

That 924 with an auto could be a bit wheasy, especially if a BMW 318 is being deemed too slow now.

Liking deadlock's Alfa Idea too.

Think i may go for a wander through the classifieds, always a favourite hobby!

Just a randon thought but what do the older '80's merc coupe / cabs go for? will have a look biggrin
