Afternoon all,

I need to get a check-up done soon and was wondering what the eye-care is like in Singapore? I live in Indonesia and the opticians here are rather basic and only able to measure prescriptions etc.

Ideally I'd like to get a full eye exam and check-up done to the standard I'd get back in the UK. I wear contact lenses so would like to get my eyes examined properly, not just a simple eye test.

Anyone out there know what they're like and if so what the cost is roughly?

cheers

any capitol optical shop will do this (like a boots opticians in the uk)

If you want something more serious i can recomend other places if you want / need (like laser stuff etc)

edit - just saw your profile and you are a pilot so see what you mean see what i did there?? about a thorough examination.

Give these guys a call, http://www.steveseaheyecentre.com/ Very thorough and based in Camden Medical Center so if there is extra stuff needing doing then all the services are on site or very nearby!

Cost at Capitol Optical probably $100, at camden medical center probably $3 - 500 but there will be a more medical based check than "are you boss eyed"

What do you mean by a full scan, I am very miopic, (-16) and have had retina detachments, I have a full scan every year by a consultant eye specilist, including 'computor mapping' of the retina, with a nice print out, last one revealed 3 retina holes that were repaired by lasser, (which is much better than the 2 operations I've had to 'stitch' the retina back), this cost around a hundred pounds and is done by Dr Tan at KLCC medical center, this is the only place I know with the equipment, (sorry Kl not Sing), but I do know you can't get it done at Glen Eagles in KL so I assume you can not get it done at GE sing.

Moose,

Surely if you visit a private hospital in Indonesia, there is the kind of care you seek? If not, those throngs of rich Indonesians would have to travel for even anythingly remotely complex, which seems terribly unlikely.

In Singapore, there will be tons of options, and Malaysia is pretty well stocked too. Thailand would also be a good bet if it wasn't such a dodgy place to visit at the moment.

Berw, maybe not in gleneagles but Camden Medical Centre 2 floors dedicated to eye specialists (FYI)

Deadlock. From my experiance the rich Indonesian tai tai's bring there neurotic tendancies to Singapore and combine it with a shopping trip!!!

Thanks for the answers all smile Sounds like Singapore opticians do the kind of check-ups I'm after and very might like UK opticians. By full scan I just meant a regular checkup. Here in Indo all the opticians can do it sit you in-front of a machine to check your prescription rather than actually check your eyes out.
