Hi all,

Sadly not me but someone I know who'll be visiting Singapore in February next year for a few days. So what's the weather like at that time of the year, what's good to eat, to see or to go?

From my slightly hazy memory, Carrot Cake is a must but I can't remember where I had that. Bay shore perhaps? There was that tall tower with good views of the city. Again, I can't remember where. Raffles for a Singapore Sling. (That one I do remember)

So... Any suggestions?

The couple in question are mid 40's and fairly adventurous.

The weather will be hot and humid (Singapore doesn't really have seasons).

The tall bar is the New Asia bar in the Swisshotel building.

Raffles is 'kin expensive - think about £40 for a Sling. Not sure if it's worth it TBH.

Maybe one of the locals can advise if the IR (Casinos) are worth going to?

Ooops sorry, missed this one.

Haven't ventured to the IR yet (as a PR i am seen as a local so have to pay $100 entry) but i hear that there are some good restaurants there. Its not fully open yet so no real feedback as yet.

Yes it will be hot, but Feb is probably the "coolest" month as its the end of the NE Monsoon, so low humidity and a nice strong breeze across the island.

If they are outdoorsy activity types they could try taking a bumboat from Changi Village ferry terminal to Pulau Ubin (pulau - Island) and rent a bike for $10 a day! Its like going back to the 1950's! Don’t go at the weekend.

Also could meet up with one of the hashes for a run through the jungle. http://www.hhhs.org.sg/ its a lot better than following the hotel jogging route if that’s your thing!

There are also some great walks through Bukit Timah Nature reserve
http://www.nparks.gov.sg/cms/index.php?option=com_...

If they are here for a while a day / overnight trip to Batam or Bintan in Indonesia could be an eye opener to see something a bit closer to real Asia, Nagoya is a bit of an eye opener to some!

Local food - the carrot cake that you remember (no carrots in it though) can be had in hawker stalls and food courts all over the island. Every shopping center has one and generally the quality is top notch!

Recommendations -

Satay Street after 8pm at Lau Pa Sat near Raffles place, They close off a street and open up 20 satay stalls, all excellent!

East Coast Seafood Center (opposite Bayshore) - Best Sambal Stingray (warning SPICY)

Marina South (Past the Integrated Resort) - All you can eat, cook it yourself BBQ (open air and quite rough but good fun with the locals - prepare your own live crab etc)

Apollo's Banana Leaf Curry on Racecourse Road in Little India - Everything on the menu is good, Tamarind Chicken or Fish Head Curry are house specials. Always eat with Cobra Beer.

After Apollo's have a look at Mustafa's ... this store has EVERYTHING and never closes.

Sunday Brunch (my choices Fullerton, Mandarin Oriental or Hyatt) - Very high quality buffet brunch (usually 11 to 4) that is comparable in quality to any top notch London hotel plus Free Flow Champaign and cocktails - if you like a drink this can be very good value!!

Night Safari - I always thing this is rather cool, but that’s just me

Jurong Bird Park - Supposedly one of the best bird sanctuaries in the world.

Sentosa - full of tourist tat, but does have some nice beaches don't go at the weekend.

There are a few slightly off the beaten path things to do as well as one or two obvious ones!

Things will seem expensive but that's because GBP is so devalued. As long as they are not using taxi's at peak periods, then they are not too expensive, see the "surcharges" on the link here http://taxisingapore.com/taxi-fare/

Edited for shocking spelling hehe
