Thinking of a little trip.

As my contract is coming to an end I'm thinking of taking a couple trips before heading back. Was thinking of flying my wife over for three weeks & going to a couple of places we've not been before but that were always on the list Vietnam is one and Kota Kinabalu is the other.

For KK the idea is to fly over, walk up the big hill then go find some of the those big orange hairy monkeys.

For Vietnam the plan - being hatched as I type - involves flying into Hanoi spending a couple of days there before moving on to Ha Long bay for 3 nights. I've also heard that Na Trang Hoi An Hue and Sapa are all worth a visit and then there's Ho Chi Min as well? Has anyone been to any of these others?

Ideslly I'd like to spend as month or more in each, but around three weeks is the max I'll get away with. I'm being daft thinking I can do both in a relatively short period of time?

KK is OK but I wouldn't envisage spending too long there. When I was last there, most people got the key bits done in 5 days or so...

Walk up the hill look for monkeys, that's all it's about so yes, 5 days was along the lines of what I was thinking.

Siem Reap / Angkor Wat in cambodia and Bagen in Myanmar? Both worth 5 days. The Siem Reap one could be tied in with your Vn trip.

a nice beach holiday? Boraccay or Lombock?

Cambodia is one of my favourite places. When we were out here last time, we went there a lot - nearly bought a house there!

Myanmar was very a bit odd, people not very open or trusting of westerners. Yangon was interesting insofar as you can see how the infrastructure was put in years ago but is now going to pot. Bagan was good and we drove cross country to Mandaly where we picked up a really nasty case of gastro enteritis which saw MrsHGL hospitalised on our return to KL.

Laos is great and if we had more time would deffo go back there - Last time we drove there from KL in this...

We're not really beach people, ok for a couple of days, but we tend to prefer doing stuff. Went to Bali & Lombok when were out here before.

For some reason we never got around to either Vietnam or Borneo, so trying to correct that this time... just not sure if it makes sense to do a little bit of both or a bit more of just one of them!!
