Kuala Lumpa/Singa over New Years
Discussion
So the plan is:
Fly into KL on the 30th Dec, anjoy NYE watching the Petronas Towers fireworks. Planning to head down to Singa for a couple of days, and the head up to Langkawi via some stop offs, before getting back to KL on the 15th Jan 2010 - any recommendations on NYE parties/people fancy meeting up at some point?

Where's a good place to watch the fireworks from, Berw? (Apart from your apartment!!)
I think (need to check) I'm staying near the Petronas Towers, so where should I head after NYE (assuming jet lag hasn't killed me!!).
Any Singapore people fancy showing me the local nightlife (should be there 3rd/4th Jan)?

The problem is the crowd, i used to live near the twin towers and we never went out on new year as it was so busy, used to sit at the roof pool and have a'condo' party. Getting about is a big problem around the towers as they close the roads, even taxi's don't work, so best is from your hotel One year i went to the party in the twin towers but this need contacts and is expensive. Best best is from your hotel most of the big hotels have a party/dance. The Manderin is supposed to be good at new year. As I say the crowd is why we go to our balcany, we can see from the Kl Tower, right around to the twin tower so we see most of the fire works. I wouldn't be driven by the fire works they are over in 20 minutes to get close to KLCC(at ground level) you would need to have a seat on the grass by 8 pm and then you are there with your cans surrounded by local and their girl on their mopeds.
Zouk usually do big christmas and new year parties in Singa

With 1st 2nd and 3rd being a weekend i would guess that there will be some big parties in places like Attica in Clarke Quay.
Also Cafe del Mar in Sentosa will probably be rather lively. Christmas and New Year are not big local events, more commercial ones as their big holiday (chinese new year) is 5 weeks after.

Gents, how does this look for an itinerary? I have from the 30th to the 15th to do this in - not sure I have time for Singapore anymore, as it's a 10 hour round trip on the train?
5 days KL, including general sightseeing, Batu caves (open to suggestions)
Overnight stay in Melaka.
Overnight in Penang.
3-4 days in Langkawi.
Head up to a hill station - Cameron Highlands/Fraser's Hill
Need to fit in either Taman Nagara or Endur Rompin National Parks (elephant riding)
