Track Day at Sepang
Discussion
Hi to the PH'ers here in Singapore!
I have been in Singapore for a year now and have only just realised there's an international part to the forum!
I used to race in the UK before leaving for Singapore so I have major withdrawal symptoms and am itching to race again or at least make do with as many track days as I can!
Any advice much appreciated - perhaps over a few drinks around here somewhere?

Otherwise its up to Sepang.

John, Track days I know of are
29th Nov Sunday, open day, anyone can come, 200rm
14th December Traction circle club members only, 300S$
19th December, Lotus Club Track day, lotus cars and invites only. 300RM (HMBB let me know if you want to come ).
Next race is the weekend of 6th December Malaysian Super Series.
Track days are a lot better the these days, last weekend there wa 150 ars out and nothing I thought was dangerous.
HeffernJ, we’ve posted quite a lot here on racing at Sepang, but I’ll happily repeat some of it, as I know it, PM me and I’ll send you details if you want.
There is no racing in Sing, there is a new circuit being built and there are plans for club racing from 2011, I don’t have any details.
At Pasir Gudang there is the clubman challenge, this is for Proton Saga, no timing limited marshals, start order drawn from a hat, cheap[and cheerful.
Sepang, there is drag race, every few months on the start straight, which scares me as all the people I know seem to blow engines,
Malaysian Super Series, various bikes, and four car categories
Small cars, Perodua Kancils 660 with Diathsu engines and turbo.
Salon Cars, 1600 cc as it says
Super Cars over 1600 so Porches, Radicals etc
Classic Cars things capable of being built before 1986, TVRps 7’s Porches, Mustangs, BMW’s Datsuns,
Costs are low 100 pound entry fee, license is easy to get, if you pass the eye test you get a license,
Safety at Sepang is very good, regulations can be down loaded form the web site.
You can pick up a race ready car from a little over a thousand ponds, (won’t win but will get you on the track),

Hi chaps,
Been a while so hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year.
If anyone is heading up to Sepang or any of the other tracks for that matter, then let me know.
I am planning on heading up there and checking out whatever track days and racing is going on. I see there is a track day this Saturday for cars (3rd January 2010). Prices are so much cheaper than what I'm used to seeing in the UK but then again living in Singapore it's the car that's the issue!
Drinks too anyone?
James

Surprised they haven't removed my account as it clearly hasn't been used to post! Only forums I used back home were fully motorsport related, didn't bother too much with road cars etc.
Berw, appreciate all that info.. looks like MSS may be one for me to consider depending on costs as always. Looks like no single seater racing at a club level which is what I'm into. It could be time to start doing bike trackdays for thrills instead if that's cheaper.
Will give karting a go here this w/e instead, looks like I'm not going to get up to Sepang.

Every Saturday AM (0700 to 1200) at Pasir Guidang is open track day for Bikes only, lots of Ducati's from what my biker mates say!
As you have discovered not much by way of single seater racing unless you have a big cheque book!
With any luck though, they will stop buggering about and get on with the Changi Motorsports Hub but sadly, i am not holding my breath!

Was talking to an acquaintance the other night and was told to post up here for some info on how/where to get a car to hire so I can have a play at Sepang!??!?! Would rather avoid buying a car to race in Malaysia as i am rather mobile with work and already have a track car in a garage back in Australia
I am in Singapore with work at the moment so figure i have been to Sepang to watch races, and its time i get my bum in a car and punch out some laps.

Berw will be along soon and has a locost 7 that i believe he rents out for track days at sepang, and there are some guys that have stripped and lightened Proton Hatchbacks at Pasir Guidang that they rent out too.
Also the HKS Garage R in singapore rents out fully track spec'ed Civics for race events at Sepang.
where do you lurk when you are in Singa?

Cool, I hired an R400 Caterham for Spa last year. Should keep the theme going with a Lotus 7 at Sepang
I am in Joo Chiat for the short term, depending how long the stint goes I may move in April-May. Will be spending some time in India and also Penang...just dont know at the moment where i will be spending the most of my time

First thing is I don't know when there are any track days at Sepang, the Sepang site shows nothing until August, the F1 is 3 weeks away and then there is the Malaysian Super Series at the end of April, this series is now split into 2, so it will take up 12 weekends between now and end October.
I have a Locost with a mate, which we talked about hiring out, but we hven't done anythiing about it as there don't look to be any days coming up, but when I am back in KL I'll look at calculating a rate, it is hardley a R400, it has a 1330 cross flow, twin 40's etc and runs on 7 inch slicks, handles and breakes great, and a good car to learn the lines, but it is down on power on the streights, we built it as a starter racer for my mate, I am currently building another for a second friend to the same spec. Racing is cheap here and they both wanted to get into it, but need sonthing to learn on, the current build is being done with aview to running a cross flow for a year and then changing to a S200 Honda.
There are lot of low priced track cars available, but the problem is storing them at or near the track otherwisw tow cost are high. There is talk of Sepang building a further 50 garages for rent, b ut no one knows when. If you are in Sing have a look at Traction Circle, they run track days, and I'll get back with a price for the Locost.
