Went over to the Johor Circuit in Malaysia yesterday for a track day, had some great fun too!!

http://www.johorcircuit.com.my/

Its an unusual and rather technical circuit, 3.8km long and probably about a 40 meter altitude change, with 3 real "leap of faith" blind hills and some very grippy tarmac!!

What was amazing was that it was just me an my mate with his 350z there!!! each given our own garage with fans blowing and everything and off we went, all for RM70 / hour!! (or about GBP12 / hour!!!)

30 laps later and was getting times of about 2.10 / lap. I now need some new rear tires and i have probably taken a few thousand kilometers off the clutch but what a hoot!!

Recommended if anyone finds themselves in Southern Malaysia!!!

Can you hire cars there for the track, or must you take your own?

they have a few Mazda 323 based Protons that can be hired for RM300 / 4 hour session.

Sounds ste, but they are stripped out to bare shell, full rollcage, and full race spec engines and suspension. I recon that although noit faster than mine, in raw power, in the right hands would be able to match a compairable driver in the porker.

It looked like it would be a full on hoot oand well worth the effort!!

Drop them an email and they will give you all the details!!!

Mate of mine should have his new engine fitted about then so that could make for a good "run in" trip followed by a see what it's got session!! !

(Cosworth rev-up in a 350Z, good for about 500bhp NA out the box ... should be fun)

As i said in my intro I live in KL, but I'm spending more and more tome in JB, specifically in PG, just 2 km from the curcuit. just spent a week at the JB Hyatt, and look like I'll be there for at least one week a month for the next 3 years.
I'm thinkong about taking my locust down and leaving it there. is there any car storage at the circuit?

I believe that there are car lock-ups at the track.

Best bet is to give them a call, the guys that run it are very helpful and a good laught to boot!

I am not up to speed on the proton range, but i think we are talking about the same car (its basically the old 323 design that proton bought .. )

They may have been offering us a RM100 discount because they were bored that day and no one else was there!!!

Still i was having too much fun in the porker!!

eta if you have not seen the car it looks like it could be a good laugh, not super fast but very light and will handle well on the twisty gradients of Pasir Guidang.

The car is 100% stripped out shell with just roll cage and 1 bucket seat. (although parts of the rover-esque fake wood dash are still present to keep the clocks in place)

Its lowered on 13's or 14's with good sticky rubber and uprated brakes. Also has torsion bars and a lot of smart engine upgrades (induction, cams etc)

Probably a good option for a hoon given that 99% of hire cars are auto's!

I had 2.5L in my 2 door STI in the uk pushing 450 horses
Until my garage decided to write it off on my behalf (very kind of them)

At least it solved the problem in terms having to sell it - in anticptaion to coming to Singapore.

I have my helmet and gloves with me so itching to get round a track in the new year.

My give it go, as it better than nothing !

drop me a PM when you have booked your date ... may get a few others to join in, my cranky aircooler, a 350z with a 500bhp cosworth lump, a WRX and an exige are all definite possibilities!!!

The bikes go in the morning (usually leave singa about 5am) and we sometimes go over mid morning to watch them before being hooligans ourselves!!!

Wet season now though so want to be careful (a bit damp this afternoon wasn't it!!)

Once i book will let you know

Any chance of a lift over if you decide to come otherwise its hiring a car and getting lost which is my speciality ?

How long you had your 911 ?
Must have cost a fair bit ? with the cheap cost of motoring here in Singapore

wink

Cheers will let you know, bit busy with work and wedding coming up as well

I am sure that something can be arrainged, although a good alternative would be to get a malaysian taxi from near Sim Lim Tower in Bugis. There are always hundreds of them and once you haggle a bit it shouldn't cost much, cheaper than a hire car anyway.

Had the Porker for 2 years now ... old cars are not that expensive here relatively speaking (because the average local only wants new new new) so cost me $60k with 3 and a half years COE Left on it. Road tax is just over $3k a year but they have been giving me a rebate of late!!

Amongst others i know of a rather nice Alfa Junior for sale for $32k and a few early 80's 911's for $55 - 65k if you are hankering wink

How long you been here now?

Been here 6 months and only another 18 months to go - Woohoo

To tell you the truth a car is not a necesscity I need, I live 5 mins away from Suntec where I work and Orchard is just round the corner - with the militant polcing laws here its not worth the effort. Plus the resale value of used cars is so poor - and i just can't bring myself to part for 60k for an 80's porchse that would cost half as much in the UK !

However learning to ride a motorbike - which is akin to a death wish here as you know, but only need for short commute to work and back

I work for a Large US Software Company (PDF/ Photoshop - you should know who I mean) - so if ever need any photo/video/ dvd editing software let me know

cheers mate

Ohh could be useful!!! wink

TBH the police are nowhere near as bad as the rule book makes them look, so things are quite easy ... I have never had any serious issues (one speeding infringement that they decided to let me off with ... )

I am guessing by your wording that you are not enjoying singa so much?? You should try travelling out to some of the other areas to see more, there are some briliant hidden spots about the island!

PM me if you want some ideas.
