Hi folks. I've set this up in the Holiday and Travel forum as well, so please don't double post!

I have to be in Bangers & Hua Hin, Thailand, for work from 14 - 23 July. In order to maximise travel / school holidays, my wife and son are thinking about joining me from 21 July (ish) to 3rd August (ish) for a summer holiday in Asia

As Air Asia flights and general hotels are such good value, where would anyone recommend to spend 10 / 12 days. I'll need to end the holiday near an intl airport, as my wife will fly back to U.K. And I'll go on to Tokyol for further meetings (probably with my 13 y.o lad, as his best mate lives there)

Any thoughts gratefully received, as I know SE Asia can be dodgy in Jul / Aug

Cheers fella. We're only tied to HH for 2 days, as I'm working at a military exercise at the police training camp there. I think I'll be in the Marriott there.

Our initial plan was my wife and son join me in HH for the last 2 days of my conference so that they can chill by the pool and shake the jet lag and then we'd go *somewhere* for 10 days or so (that somewhere could be stay in HH, or go anywhere through the region).

We don't really like 5* accommodation. A hut on a beach would be much more our thing. Budget is pretty flexible.

Go south and east of krabbbie, the beaches are great kids will love it, simple places to stay, Pak meng beach is good N of Trang, the beach south of Pak meng ya ya, I think has one restaurant and huts, this area was in a 10 places to visit web site I saw the other week, South from ho him to Sonklha is ok. You will need your own transport, but driving in these areas is ok, not like the city.

from HH, if you have access to a car (easy to rent in town for about THB1000 / Day) then head about an hour south to Sam Roi Yot / Dolphin Bay, very nice and outdoorsy,

Or, as Berw says, head south, but you are looking at either a long drive on crappy roads / take your life in your hands in a van or go back to Bangkok to fly as HH Airport basically does bugger all.

if you do the drive, then a nice route you can do (I did over Christmas)

Hua Hin - Coast just north of Chumphon - Across to Ranong - Khao Lak - Krabi (Ao Nang) or Phuket, Then back across to Chumphon and up to Hua Hin,
