Hi!

I have just moved from the UK to KL, and have been really struggling to lease a car. I have tried every dealer direct and they all have the same answer, 'we stopped offering leasing'.

Has anyone had the same responses to this? Or ideally I would like to hear of a success story and some advice!

Thanks in advance!

Ben

HI Ben, Just saw this as away, I've been here 20 years, car purchase here is nothing like UK, there is no leasing, You will get a bank loan term and deposit will depend on security, you may need a guarantee from your employer if both you and wife are expat.
Problem is it is very hard to sell a second hand car, banks give locals 10 year loans so they will not buy a 3 year old car. Also I'd advise against certain new cars, BMW's Audi. and Merc in particular the importers to do have the skills or equipment to service them.
Having said that skills for older cars are very high, I'd advise the purchase of a second hand car, for cash is possible great buys around, Depends what you want but Jap cars are easy to get fixed and maintained.
You will not get a service record when you buy here, so you need care.
I'll send you a PM with info. There are great cars around if you know where to look, I have an Elan, a few sevens. a Lotus Carlton and a Z3 and a 944 with 30 K on the clock of each, so I ma hardly scared of car maintenance, but for everyday I have a new Toyota Hilux and a Nissan I would not touch a new German Car. Last two guy who arived in KL like you one wound up with a E28 M535 other had a E30 323.

exactly what berw said.

We did rent a Myvi from Mayflower which was a lot cheaper than the usual suspects. Miss the Myvi was a good little car actually, fond memories of putting it on two wheels going up to Genting smile

Miss the M535u badly...

Hope you are well Berw, to make you (and me) feel old, my eldest applied for his provisional license then sent me this link... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpPcwaNO8aA i recognised a few competitors there... thanks for those days at Sepang, still deeply ingrained in my memory.

HI, ok feeling old when the kids start to drive, that link is Mats BMW 528, great car, it's in the UK now and he has run it in a few classic races there and at Spa, the link was when I first put the turbo engine in the Sylva, and we hadn't sorted out the suspension for the extra weight of the steel block or the lag, its a lot quicker now.
