Hey, jsut noticed this part of the forum.. In a few months I'll be moving to the above place, will spend half my time in the UK and half there. Will be helping out and investing in a guesthouse and bar. Exciting times! Gonna have to get me a cool motorbike to ride round the crazy roads!

I guess you mean Sihanokvil, the beach resort that is part of Kampot?

Nice countryside, how's your Russian? Although i gather many have gone back home from there as well as Thailand now.

250cc trailie will be all you will need there smile and a scooter as a "get me home from the pub" bike ...

Kampot isn't Sihanoukville but is in Preh Sihanouk province.
Can I assume you'll go back to the UK in the rainy season?

Unless you've got a licence and experience to ride anything bigger than a 125 I'd avoid riding on the roads especially if you've never ridden in Asia. It's nuts!

As one of the few Asian bike riders on here, I'd repeat the warning on ridding something beyond your experience. I don't know about Vietnam but in Thailand and places you can ride anything on a learners licence, like the UK was in the 70's, I've seen some horror stories in Thailand, where guys hire RI's etc having never ridden before.
Get a bike by all means they are great, but stay within your capabilities, don't but the biggest thing you see just because it is legal.

The laws are changing in Cambodia next year. If you don't have a Cambodian licence you will get fined now ($1 to $20, depending how "green" you are) if you don't have a helmet, licence or ID (V5) you could get your bike confiscated. There and then.

The fines are rising too.

However I'll reiterate what I said. DON'T ride a bike bike (+125) that you're not ridden back home. You'll fall off and injure yourself or someone else and then you'll be in the poo.
