I'm aware that we have quite a few PHers on the ground in Siam.

I was only recently made aware that a big F1 capable (so stated) track has opened up in Isaan.

Has anyone been for a visit to have a look at the new track? If so what's it like by comparison to international standards with it's amenities/facilities etc? Worth a weekend visit to watch some racing?

Likely to make a trip up from Bangkok in the next few months anyway but good to hear others take on it.

Cheers

I know a few people who raced there last week, they say it is great drivers track, no comment on facilities for spectators

Just got back from a weekend in Buriram and we went to have a look at the track. Its very impressive.

I will upload a few photos later but for now .....

the track is part of the same complex as "Thunder Castle" the Buriram football stadium (30,000 ish capacity) so shares teh carparking, and other infrastructure facilities.

The track is built but alot of the other facilities including hotels etc are being built now (give them 18 months)

The track itself looks very good, and from a spectator perspective every grandstand can actually see the whole track.

It has the potential to be very good, and already is getting a lot of regional race events plus corporate / brand stuff!

Chaps, thanks for the info.

Very reassuring words indeed for future developments John. Pics shown do the place justice imo. My only negative thoughts were why they built the bloody thing so far from BKK if they want to make it a (potential) F1 circuit...

I'm relocating to Bangkok a week on Saturday so will have to make a point of checking the place out in the next few months when I get time off. Tempted to try and pick up an E30 to track it.

Simple, any large flat expanse of land near to bangkok will

a) be incredibly expensive
b) be prone to being under water in wet season (look at the two airports)

Buriram is a 4 - 5 hour drive from central Bangkok on some very good quality highway that is more than capable of handling coaches etc, also they have an airport that is on the same side of the city as the race track, that is also undergoing upgrade, so is able to take regional jets (airbus 320 type stuff)

Also Buriram is the right side of Bangkok for Suana Svana Swana BKK international airport, and for Pattaya.

It does actually make some sense there!

Anyway, fingers crossed it succeeds!!!

I'll have a copy of that ..... the Buriram raceway has some interesting potential for me as a mate happens to have a big farm with a very big unused barn and a fully tooled workshop just 20km away !!! We can even use the back lanes around teh farm as a test track thumbup
