Ello you lot in Singapore...

Just getting back to normal after feeling I'll for most of January with colds or flu so wanted to say happy new year and hope to see a few of you out for a drink one of these days.

Think we need a drink or two as not managed to meet you lot since the KL thing didn't work out last time...

Here's a quest .. Likely better answered by Berw but interested in all optinions:
That do you reckon of this classic Beemer that appear to be a competitor of Berw's:

Pricey? would I be better off starting from scratch with an eligible chassis which is lightweight and mor my style... hmmm.

I'm accepting the fact that single seater racing is likely out of the picture in the KL area (and more so in Singapore!) so willing to give more heavyweight machinery a look!

cheers

Hi, OK it’s my mate's car, spent the last two years in the garage next to me at Sepang and I know it well, it is a super car and has won the Asia Classic Car Challenge outright for the last 4 years (there are 4 classes and the highest point in all the classes wins overall).
It is super reliable, having a basic std 2.8 engine with an upgraded ECU and I thing bigger injectors, but the handling and breaks are absolutely first class, being M5 based, the car was built by Inter Formula in KL, as said in the advert it is a proper race car not a road car with an cage, if never know it have a DNF.
Also the road tax has been paid so it is still road legal, although if it was bought there would be an inspection (MOT) done at the time of transfer and it may not pass.
I think he is trying to get all his money back on the car at the asking price, and of course you would be lucky to do that. So it depends it would cost at least the asking price to build the car using professional help, but of course if you built from scratch then you would get what you want
It is a good buy if you like it, It may struggle to win the Championship this year, it is a class B car which means that it can have 2.7 l of engine for 1000kg of weight and this is near the minimum weight, but class B this year is going to have some new cars there is a 308 and a 944 coming into the class, both of which will be at the minimum weight and I would think would out handle the BMW.
The car is duty paid in Malaysia which means it can stay here all the year, which makes it cheap as otherwise you have to take the car out every year.
I do not think you could build a car ready for our first race due in may as all the people I know who I would trust are full at the moment, inter formula are building the 308 and Niza are build a Lamb Replica and a Caterham Super Sprint for me.

And from my perspective, having seen the car a few times, it's definitely well prepared and maintained. Granted it's not going to win a concours competition next week, but it's a nicely turned out car that strikes the right balance between having a reliable engine package and sufficient power to be quick.

It also handles better than you might imagine - the lack of weight helps, but it's also interesting to watch it under braking and through both slow and quick corners - it's surprisingly agile, though I think it's probably fair to say it goes through tyres quicker than a lighter car. It runs standard width BMW wheels, but depending on the regs it may benefit from a bit more rubber on the road.

It also sounds pretty nice !! biggrin
