THe first round of the Malaysian Super Series (Cars) is the weekend of the 25th to 27th May, if any of you KL (Nick, Deadlock) or any Sing lads fancy coming to watch, XJS John has been a few times, the time table is on the attached link, entry is 50Rm for the Paddock/pits (I assume its the same as last year) and car parking is/was 5rm, you can see from the time table there is lots of racing. entry is the Paddock entrence not the grand stands.

I'm running in the Asian Classic Car Challange which should have a good turn out this year TVR's 911's, 944, 308, 7's RS 2000, M3's, E24, Corvette, 240z, that I know off so worth a look, so come along and support it.

And there are cars available for hire if you want to race and have a race licence, you can just 'turn up' and drive.

Certainly going to try to get down there for one of the days, just depends whether I can get a few jobs sorted on the car or whether they drag on into the following weekend.

Had a bad time, blew the gear box in testing, changed it overnight, blew the gear box in practice, did not go out in quali so we we could change the gear box overnight, for race one, blew the box in race one and retired, did not have time to change, so Niko said really blow it in 2 or win, three laps in the prop shaft went on the start line, as i change into 5, serious damage to the tranmission tunnel, all 4 chassie rails around it ae broke and top and sides damaged, even with the steel reenforcment we put in the sides in cse this happend, prop went out through the floor.
So that what 450 bhp does.
The lads went to the track in friday lunch time and did not go home until saunday night, we worged through, glad I got a fixed rate, or I'd be looking at a divorce the money I spent.
Niko kept saying the gear box problem was either my driving or power, I said its the clutch dragging, today it turns out that the slave for the Nissan race clutch is 18mm shaorter that the std slave and the clutch was not fully releasing, (so just maybe Niko will listen to me next time). The chassie rails are being replace now and i need a new floor, and sides to the transmission tunnel.
Will all be back together for race in 4 weeks. The nissan master and slave are in the bin and we are fitting girling ones to the Nissan box.
Over the winter, we upgraded the power, upgraded the cooling, built a light weight body, fitted a flat floor, defusser and splitter, so now running just over 600 bhp a ton at the fly wheel.
It is very very quck and the brake upgrades made last year are fine, so if we have now solved the problem on the gear box we will be OK, it was the fastest car in its class, and I got points fastest lap in bough races and was first when it all went pair shape.

Better hope the missus doesnt read this mate!!!

Breaking driveshafts, maybe TOO much power! couldnt possibly be the driver eh wink

its a hell of a lot of power for a car that light, have you had it on the rolling road at all? Did you ever persuade that aussie guy from my old work and his wife to come down to Sepang?

Yes on the rolling road and 375 at the wheel, corner weighted at 703 kg with fuel. so ready to go.

Its not the power we found that the slave cyl release arm on the one we fitted is shorter than std, so the clutcj not releasing, should be Ok for the next race.

Hi Berw,

Great to hear you're racing this year. I also heard about the Asian Classic Car Challenge and am finally will ing to accept that if I want to race it's going to have to be in a 'tin top' series (much as it pains me to say)!

Looking into all the different ways to get involved but a nice way in initially would probably be to rent a drive so if you can help with contacts on that it would be much appreciated. Will drop you a PM on the subject ;-)

Good luck with the next round.

The contact on race car hire is Classic World Racing in the UK, They have a couple of MR2's for hire durring the Malaysian Super Series Weekend, not cheap but fully surported, next weekend is the 15th July.
Info as below the MD is Mike Luck, the price he told me was 1800 pounds for the weekend for everything except fuel and track fees.

Track fees depend on where your race licence is issued if you have a Malaysian licence it is 1000rm (about 200 pounds) if you have a forign licence it is 3 times this.

There will also be a Ccapri available for hire domestically from one of my mates it is cheaper but not fully supported like classic World and not available until latter in the year, as he is using it while waiting for his new car.

If you want to build a car I've put up some links to cars I've identified as being potential. remember it is fairly cheap to build a race car here, and you can get good quality work for not much money, I use Niza racing to do my car they have a load of stuff on face book, and are licenced by AAM for roll cage construction etc.

Thanks for all the info Berw!

I could be up for that race weekend however you're right about the price - perhaps it's so high as they ship their cars out to Sepang? In any case that is a lot when I have to add in the 3000rm for a foreign race license!

I better obtain a Malay race license and it's clearly well worth it... any idea how to convert my current Nat A or is it a complete start from the beginning?

I will check out those Mudah links - an E30 325i sounds about right!
