I will be staying at the Double Trees Hilton Hotel in KL (Jalan Tun Razak area)next week and need a restaurant that is close by to entertain 20 to 25 Customers.

I need some where thats relaxed, informal and and where we can share decent food and a few beers.

Any recommendations please please?

Cheers. BB.

so these are not the kind of customers to take to the Beach Club then???

Not that up to speed on smart restaurants in KLCC, being more of the street food and beer kinda guy but the Traders has some good restaurants, as does the Mandarin Oriental - cannot really go wrong with either of them as safe options.

However Berw and the KL Crowd will be along with some better recommendations, that I will be noting down for my own reference, there are some great restaurants starting to appear there!

Not been there in a while, but Prime Restaurant in the Hilton (I think) by KLCC train station is amazing. Best steaks I've ever had. 220 day aged ribeye cloud9

It's the Double Trees Hilton Hotel in KL in Jalan Tun Razak area we are using, and not the downtown Hilton.

I will search for the Top Hat...thanks for the suggestion.

Cheers. Simon.

If it's the one I went to a few weeks back it's in Le Meridien (next to the Hilton) by KL Sentral station, not down by KLCC.

And it is indeed delicious, but eye-wateringly expensive !! eek Good job my boss was paying wink

Ok thats the old crown prince in city sq acording to google maps, Any where is a taxi ride, its on the outside of the inner ring road, you can walk across the foot bridge to Ampang Park but there is nothing there, so as you have to use a taxi you can therfore use anywhere/any resturant, places i like are the cottage in the Equtorial or the Top Hat or La Flame. there is a good chinese between Ampang Park and the chineses bank, you could walk to easy, but don't know the name off hand. resturant in the crown prince was nothing special, bit of history crown prince was the tallest building in Kl when built.
Near by are the Bombay Palace and Victoria Station, both are places I've refused to acccept or pay for the meal and are to be avoided.
Unfortunatly thast side of town is now very Korean.
Bottom half of the hotel building is office so all the places incity sq are lunch time office worker or coffee bars.

I have a problem with restaurant and mall, it's an aximoron (can't have spelt that right) why would you go to a mall to eat? KL is full of so called resturants in Malls, they are all like the cafateria in british home stores in cardiff when I was young, ok for a snack when shopping, but they are all cafes full of idiots, if you want a resturant why would you go to a shopping mall???? If that what you want then spend a a few nimutes walking throught KLCC or Pavilion, both are full of them they are all cr*p if you want to make an impression, you may have a few chinese client who would be impresed by the name, but I can tell you they will all be even more impressed by a nice restaurant ( a real restaurant).

BB, Madam Kwan's is pretty overrated fare, and you are paying a fortune for what is essentially local cpeapo food. What's more, it's in the middle of a popular mall and is not at all partitioned away from the masses, and it can get a bit busy and rowdy. For a birthday party or something, sure, but for ambience and fare suited to a nice business meal with drinks? Fuggedaboutit.

What are your preferences? Any preference for a particular type of cuisine? Does it have to be Halal? Note that Halal typically means no booze, but a lot of local Muslims are quite partial to a drink or two, especially in private business lunches and the like.

Berw, I think you meant the Chalet in Equatorial, not the cottage. smile That place is okay, but it's a bit long in the tooth now.

Favola, an Italian joint in the Meridien hotel at KL Sentral has a nice private dining area which you may prefer. Prime, in the same hotel, is arguably one of the top steakhouses in all of KL, but am not sure on how good they are with accomodating a crowd. However both these places are not exactly near you.

There are tons of private restaurants in converted houses just behind Doubletree (in the Jalan Damai area). Hajime, a great Japanese place, comes to mind. They are one of the only places in KL that serve Fugu (when in season), and the sashimi is outstanding. I'm not sure on their drinks selection, but they will happily drown you in sake.

There is also a Lebanese place in that area that I've heard serves good food, but I suspect booze is off the menu, and I've never been so I'm not sure about ambience.

Another option is Sage in the Gardens Mall. The food is good enough to be memorable (particularly the desserts). Ambience is fantastic, and it is not actually in the mall itself (just in an alcove in the same building). Not exactly cheap though! Also in the same building is a Chinese restaurant called the Han Room. This is actually in the mall itself, but you can book a private room away from the riff raff, and the food is excellent bordering-on-fine chinese cuisine (scallops the size of your palms, proper peking duck etc). Booze options will be plenty, but pork is very much on the menu, so off-limits to Muslims.

There's a new place called Millesime that I haven't been to yet. It's an open menu concept, meaning you get served whatever the chef decides to serve you for the day.

A great option would be to go up to Tamarind Springs in the foresty hills of Ampang, just about 20 minutes or so away from you. There are two restaurants there - Tamarind Springs is a Vietnamese place, and Tempio is Italian, both operated by the same people. The food is nothing much to shout about, but the ambience is superb. You really are out in the jungle and you can have a jolly good time with a pretty extensive selection of wine etc. A great choice, particularly if you have non-locals in your party.

There really are tons of options, but it all depends on what strikes your fancy. Food is a particular area of interest of mine, so shout if you need any further help.

smile

BB, if you want to make any kind of an impression, and want a nice quiet place just to sit back and have a few drinks with some people, you will NOT be happy with Madam Kwan's!!!!!!

The ambience would be similar to going to a busy restaurant/pub chain pub in the UK, like Harvester's or something. If that's what you're looking for, carry on...

Hotel staff generally don't have a bloody clue (probably because in general they don't earn enough to afford to eat at any of these places anyway).
