Hi All

I have nearly been here for a year now and have been without my cars or motorbike for the whole time. Been pretty boring without them (not that I needed them either).

Having seen the prices out here, I am a little stumped on what to buy. I have always loved the lotus exige but in Hong Kong it is way too hot for the air con of that car (plus it's hot in that car normally)

Other possible cars are an M5, a 575 Maranello or maybe an Aston AMV8. I was put off by the Nissan GTR as I know what HK boy racers are like (or any for that matter) so am not sure they would be kept in good condition. Missus doesn't like the C63. I don't like the new M3. Porsches are, well, porsches.

By the way, before i came, I had a sagaris and a RS6 just to give you an idea of the type of cars I like. Any suggestions?

Where exactly would you be driving it anyway? I suppose that there is the new bridge to Macau?

Hey KLO, Ive been here nearly two years now and I'm still looking for the "right" HK car. I also had a Saggy and would love something similar but the issues with overheating and parking here make it a non-starter. I'm interested to see how you get on.

Hi K Lo,

Don't be put off. I'm running a TVR Chimaera (with A/C) and have no issues with overheating. Clutch seems to be holding up fine despite stop-go traffic too.

The one thing that's got me worried is the ban on idling engines that's due to come in force in December. If that means switching off at traffic lights then I'm screwed, as the Chim's a bit temperamental about re-starting when hot.

The main cause of poor hot start in the tropics is fuel vapourisation, my mate has a V8 stag in Malaysia runs stombergs in the V, he has a scurge pump so he pumps the fuel out and back to the tank and drains the oil from the carb chambers when the car is hot, Mate with V8 rovers have the same trouble, so I assume the TVR has a similer problem, try diffrent petrol, I find shell V power is more prone to vapourizing than some other brands, if on carbs look at drainingg the carb chambers, if on injection not so easy, but try to fit a fuel cooler into the fuel line.

Hi

Thanks for all the hints guys. Finally got my bike registered (ball ache so don't bother trying to transport this yourself) so at least I have something.

In terms of car, I have decided efficiency is key. Altohugh I love the idea of a lotus or TVR, their inability to blow any cold air is the main deciding factor for me. At the moment, it's a GTR (premium or black) although I am a little worried about their source and treatment to date, a BMW M3 which is proving quite hard to find (especially anything without red leather!) or, maybe (need to research a bit more first on servicing/ reliability) a Maserati Gran Tourismo. All sporty but have a level of refinement which you need here in HK. If anyone else has any ideas (maybe E60 M5 or Jag XFR?) then please do let me know. Always interested. Better still, if you know anyone selling any of the above, let me know. Thanks guys.

I don't know if thos applies in HK, but may save someone somwhere, I was told the weekend that you need to avoid GTR's In Malaysia they are all gray imports and there is no way to get the 'code' for the gear box to say that it has been serviced, so at 40K the gear boxes are shuting down, and apparaantly there is no way to turn them back on the importer is not recognised by the manufacture and will not gove the info.

I wa sinterested because it is the reason I wont by a new BMW, they are hugly expensive and no contact with BMW, nearly all are grey imports, (same it true of most cars here)

Got my C63 today. 2nd hand but the person i bought it off bought from Mercedes dealership and had it serviced there too. Only 9,500km and apart from tiny dent on rear bumper it is pristine in and out. all checked out by Mercedes and independent inspection agency so I am happy with it all smile

Loving the sound. Hating the traffic.........frown
