Not talking about 200 ft Sunseekers unfortunately!

Been looking at second hand wake boarding boats and they seem good value, including ribs, boston whalers with big outboards etc..

Does anybody know the running costs, docking, fuel etc...
surely cheaper than car ownership and no COE nonsense?!

Thanks, Dave

Yup but am typing on IPhone. Will do a better version later

First you will need a PPCDL licence, it's easy, and can be done in a weekend / few evenings

Either raffles, one15 or pongoll are where you will keep. All have dry rack storage and access to approved water ski / wake boarding zones.

Don't know exactly on mooring of this sort but pontoon moring for a 30ft varies between $300 and $600 / month depending on where you keep

OK on a real computer now.

Correct, boats are one of the "cheapest" hobbies here as you don't necessarily need to be a member of a club in the first place, there is only GST to be paid on the boat and running costs are not too bad either.

before considering a boat you are supposed to (by law) have a PPCDL (or at least one person on the boat needs to hold one) PPCDL is Powered Pleasure Craft Drivers License.

Most yacht clubs / sailing clubs and marina's do the required courses, I think it usually costs between $250 - 350

Petrol costs the same for boats as for cars so about $2 a liter

The boat will need to be inspected every 2 years and cary the necessary safety equipment (Flares, Life Belt, Life Jackets, Anchor, Lights, Bucket, and my favorite, a dustbin!)

There are specific designated areas that you can go waterskiing in singapore waters (not unsurprising given the amount of big stuff here!) Off the top of my head these are off Pongoll, south of Pulau Bukom and off Raffles Marina, although i think there may be a few more areas now too.

Thanks John -- its seems this is the only way I will have some sort of engine in my life!

Been looking at a few websites -- for about 20K-30K Sing you can get some pretty cool boats.
Do you know any other websites?

Dave, you need to come and have a pint with my buddy Rory (you met him on my birthday) as he has just done his license and is looking at boats. His mate is actually selling some super-high end jet ski that can tow a wakeboard, so I asked him about costs of keeping it and I have them somewhere for 1 degree 15 and Raffles Marina. Raffles Marina was much, much, much cheaper, let's just put it that way! Feeling somewhat under the weather, though may catch John for a pint tonight (probably solo mate as Rachael is ill and I am not great) if you are about, Dave? Meant to be heading to Sentosa after that though, so next week may be better!?

best bet is to just go to the various marina's to have a look, i know there is a for sale board at Pongoll and at Raffles.

0ne15 will be the most expensive place to keep a boat ... + $7 to get onto Sentosa each time.

Afraid i am a Stick and Rag merchant so my knowledge is a bit limited otherwise.

Hello mate – how have you been?
Had a few beers with Mark last Friday – to be honest cant believe how bloody quickly the weeks go …

Where and what time are you meeting John?
I am meeting some mates at BQ in Boat Quay at around 6 ---- I doubt I will be out for too long to be honest – feel exhausted - had a client dinner last night - great new place in CQ called Sque - a MASSIVE selection of Belgian beers.....and great food - its directly opposite Hooters on the other side of the water -

Off to the UK on Wednesday.

Are we ever going to get around to actually meeting again!?!
