I am not thinking of doing this myself, as we all know that yellow is the best colour for an Ultima smile but I notice that Storer is talking about having his car painted Silver..

So what would this cost ? I suppose you start with a bodyshell with a plain finish, but how much more time and money before the finished article ? Must be thousands, to get a good job - no ?

Regards

3-6k depending on choice of finish and how well you want the stock mouldings repairing.

It may be cheaper to have the car wrapped.

I have been told to budget about £4.5K for a good quality job on a new shell.

Shame you can't get silver gel coat!!!

Paul...

If you want a top job doing i have an excellent contact.....

They spent 3 weeks preparing and flattening the panels so they are ripple free!! The car they have done looks stunning in a TVR colour.

Kyle

I'll give you a call when I get to that stage. Still working on alloy panels at the moment. It is very time consuming but quite cathartic. Bit of a bu**er when I found alloy corrosion under the plastic cover after I had spent many hours fitting and drilling two of them. This is something to watch for when buying a S/H kit that has stood around for a few years un-started! Replacement panels on the way to me.

I must admit the Ultima body looks pretty ripple free compared to a TVR body anyway.

If you hear snarling and spitting sounds in the distance you'd better run and hide.

As soon as as I saw the silver demonstrator, I knew I had to have that colour. It's an Audi colour (from the TT I seem to remember)

Mine cost a shade under 4K in 2008 and was at rolling chassis stage with body fitted. I had the body delivered from the factory in the horrible light grey neutral colour as a suitable base colour..though I'd heard black made a good base colour too.

I got quotes from as low as 2K, but made a choice on the fact that the chap I used was an specialist (and approved repairer) for lotus and TVR and hence had good experience with GRP spraying.

Great looking car Liam

I too was smitten by the demonstrator at one of the shows. It still looks great after 8+ years.

My £4.5K budget figure is not far out then. There are some very good silvers out there to choose from.

.....and with silvers/lighter colours you can get away with fewer repairs.....helps keep the cost down.

Thanks..

There are some cracking silvers out there and when asked "Which silver do you want" I was overwhelmed with the choice like a like a young boy in sweet shop. They sprayed up about 7 or 8 swatches..which probably only made the choice worse!

Not sure where you are based but I had a full colour change on an Elise done by Option 1 in the midlands, this included quite a bit of grp crash damage repair. They are GRP specialists and all there work is show quality : http://www.option1sportscars.co.uk/ Really good prices also.
