Custom pedals

Custom pedal covers are now available for the Ultima - I just ordered a set for myself and will post pictures of them installed in the car when I receive them. In the interim you can check them out at:

They are reasonably priced (IMHO) at $99 USD and are available in a raised pyramid grid profile with the accelerator cover either satin finished to facilitate smooth transitions for heel and toeing or also in a matching pyramid grid.

I am about to rivet the dash unit on my canam and then finish the car. So installing this pedal covers will be much easier now.
Is there any drawback with the factory pedals ? The accelerator pedal is just a simple plain metal piece and I can imagine it is an advantabe
when it is not sticky, you may want it to be slippery ?

I have no problem with the factory pedals and see no need for 'Covers'.
If they are just to make it look pretty then they are a waste as you have to be upside down in the footwell to see them.
Toe/Heel is no problem with my pedals.

Again, what do they do that the factory ones don't?

Reduce weight blah blah....this is a road car not F1.

Guys!

I guess I should have included a caveat in my initial post about them (the pedal covers) being a COSMETIC upgrade for the Ultima, in order not to once again start a debate between:

• The purists/minimalists/pragmatists who believe the factory grit taped pedals are perfectly adequate and

• The tinkerers/less ideologically inclined owners who customise/modify their Ultimas.

As a point of reference, my track car is an exercise in minimalism but my Ultima is a necessary and welcome outlet for my tinkering.

Each to their own. I'd rather have those, regardless of being able to see them, compared to the cheap and nasty but functional ones Ultima supply. The Ultima ones are fine in a "typical" kit car, a Westfield for example, but have no place in a £50k kit. Imo.

thanks steve, will just leave them as they are. more important things to worry about.
Now waiting 2 weeks for a silly trimmer panel that got crushed while pushing the car on the trolley
back in the garage. Also ordered the brake light pedal kit as my construction did not turn out to be very reliable.
Factory will also send me the "new balance bar fixings" that I have not seen myself yet but will take a pic when I installed them.

Prof, as a builder and the satisfaction that you get from building ( after all, you don't get much more diverse than an Ultima and a Dakar, so it must be the building ) I would have thought you of all people would have understood the need/desire for uprated/modified parts than most
Ask yourself this, if these billet pedals came as a no cost option from the factory, would you have still gone with the tin one's?

hey Spatz....I can Top that! My neighbour...a youngish headstrong individual was working on his rebuilt MG on the drive outside the garage (pointing away from the garage)...... he was working on the opened driver door. I saw him try to push the car a little more forward and I shouted:

'Need a hand?'

He replied sullenly ' NO! No need!'

Then...he let the handbreak off....... and all I saw was a flailing of legs, half in. half out the drivers door as the car promptly ran backward with the door smashing into the garage pillar and crumpling!

Luckly he was OK apart from his pride...and a very damaged car! His dad ran out and gave him a right royal ticking off! Transpired he had refused even his help being obstinate!

Felt very sorry for him as his bottom lip quivered whilsh looking at the outcome...but

I must say one appealing thing about Ultima is sometimes the simplicity and reduction to function. The last thing I wanted to do is to try to give the car the look of a production car. Will never put any carpet or any other to make it look like that unless it is improving the function.
Not that I think the factory setup is perfect in all aspects.......

The LIGHT at the end of the tunnel has indeed been twinkling at me this month...

On...ahhh! Off ...Ohhhh! On....mmmmmmn! Off ...B gger!

I try to keep my spirits up by occasionally spinning my cat very fast on the slippery kitchen floor tiles and then watch him get up and bump into things!

Build is still a tad slow what with the missus taking every opportunity to do the GUILT Thing!

You know the one...

Saturday/ Sunday mornings she says "So where are we going today then?" ..with a knowing sweet smile!

I say: "err, well last weekend we spent going round the shops and visiting family ...so I thought I could spend maybe ...er 15 mins in the garage today love?"

" Your ALWAYS in the garage!" she retorts with a frown.

" But you know that is not true darling" I say

" Well!" She says "So what AM I GOING TO DO THEN?" ...pause ..." I suppose I can do housework then!" bottom lip protruding..

" ALRIGHT " I say... "So where you you want to go then?"

Pause..

" I DUNNO!" she replies


AAAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!

I guess this little pantomime is well known by more of us than care to admit!

Oh Steve.... you know like most of us, its just making your mark on your own car, and trying to put a something different on your car that no one else has......

Lets face it we buy these cars to be different, and its anouying when you got to a show and 30 turn up..... not so different then, unless your names Wayne of course.....
