Help with starting problem needed
Discussion
After 5 full pumps of the throttle the engine fires up from cold but if you let it die within 15 secs or so it's allmost immpossible to get it started again and it nearly flattens the battery. Is this because the plugs have sooted up and havn't had a chance to burn off?
6.3 SBC .AM Sp 500 HP. Plugs accel 416. Carb Holley 750 cfm double pumper.
Are others like this and if so what's the trick?Starts from hoy ok.Idle mixture = greyish/brown plugs = ok.
Thank you
Frank

mine is a bit like this...
I've worked out two pumps of the accelerator, and then try, if it cuts out i generally leave it for a minute or so before trying again..
It was a right pain to get going, until i found that the holley has a choke on the opposite side.. I manually use this on startup now.
The other way, that works a treat, is to put some carb cleaner in the holley's and then turn over.. Not ideal, but it starts.

Knew that routine well!!! If you don't keep it going the damn thing floods! Leave it an hour and bung in some new plugs.
In the end I replaced the cursed double pumper with a Street Avenger, never a problem after that.
Great move was fixing up a choke cable to advance the slow running. If it can be set to about 2000rpm minimum then it rarely cuts out.

Do you have a part Number for your Sreet Avenger please . Are there any 'downsides'?
Frank
I used the 4160 750 from Real Steel. Vac secondaries so it doesn't tend to puke fuel in the motor. Excellent starting. Maybe doesn't have the instantaneous throttle response of the D/P but debatable.Do you have a part Number for your Sreet Avenger please . Are there any 'downsides'?

Assuming you have binned the manual choke blade, using the choke as a hand throttle lets you (with a little practice) to drive straight off down the road just like a proper car!!!!!!!! Brilliant.
Perhaps the best bet might be to get a QFT from Dr. Dee. I believe Wilder has one of his engines so probably has a QFT on there. Might be worth a chat with him.
