After having covered 100 miles in my GTR I realised that due to incorrect wiring the aircon/heater wasn't working properly. The thermostat switch was turning on both the heater motor and the condenser motor. The heater switch did nothing .I thought this was a bit odd then it all packed up .After correcting the wiring and cleaning the points of the thermostat switch everything is now OK . Questions which now come to mind are why did the said points become dirty/burned was it overload ? I notice that the points are made of different materials so therefore polarity is important ; which way round should the polarity be ? Is it possible to do away with the thermostat and just have a simple switch to turn the aircon on and off when required ?

Thanks for the site .I have gained much reading back 60 pages now ! Also I have been able to help out.

P.S
Would a condeser in parallel with the points prolong their life?
