Potential Body Mods
Discussion
Ive been thinking of a few mods for some time... so I did a few mockups in cardboard.
1. Extension of Roof air inlet. This is a definite. I'm going to extend it to the front. Some of you will have noticed that if you extend the vent forward, it would go over the door openings. I'm going to have a 3 part peice, the centre attached to the roof (with the air duct)... then some "extensions" on the top of the doors so that the shape of the vent continues from the rear over the roof. The rear clam needs a shors extension also so that it can seal to the roof.... the extension will be tapered forward (rather than tapered back as it is standard)
2. Side vents - this is also a definite. I'm going to use 4 fins as per the pics, with mesh attached to the back of the fins. at the front the mesh will be flush with the inside of the rear clip... it will taper from there (about 15mm from the face of the guard) to 60mm from the face at the rear.
3. Front Fins... I'm not happy with the results so far... Ive tried a few different configs - will work on it more tomorrow

The three fins at the front look best but please keep them straight.
nah. prefer them the other way..Scoop Definitely
Side vents, not sure, maybe with canards?

Top marks for breaking the mould.
heh - see what you did there..
prototyped with bits of plastic?
The sides will look better with the mesh in there... I'll see if I can mock it up with mesh today.
I tried smaller fins at the front also but didnt take a lot of photos. In this pic you can see the right hand fin is wider at the top... will play around with more shapes today.
Going to try putting the mesh near the top of the fin.
The backdrop is (I know its hard to believe from the photos)...in Hong Kong! The little corner where I live is nothing like the typical Hong Kong skyline!

Hi Crafty,
Here’s some shots of Lawrence Farmers Porsche powered TT GTR.
I’ve always liked the GTR with a roof scope but I may tone mine down a little from this embodiment. I think the Porsche GT1 race car has an interesting roof scope that may look a little less aggressive.
-e-mail me if you’d like other pics

[/pic*]How's this.... Ive put a layer of black paper in there that represents the mesh, and put it flat (rather than vertical as per standard). This makes the fins much smaller and I think looks much better.
3 fins
Medium - Long - Medium

3 fins
Long - Short - Long

3 fins
Medium - Short - Medium

I think the one above does it.
Here's 4 fins and 5 fins for reference.... too much in my opinion

And now onto the roof.
I tried bringing the scoop down over the front screen. I thought maybe a large moudling that also covered a portion of the top of the front screen and also the top of the side window....cutting the side windows to suit.

Then I tried changing the shape at the lower edge of the side screen... problem here is that the lower front line of the side screen doesnt match the windscreen line

Then I looked at adding some shape or band of colour into the side to match up the lines at the bottom and to give more of a teardrop shape at the back

Which got me thinking.... if I make a moudling that goes on top of the existing door... and cut the windows down to size.... I can have roll-up windows!!
In these pics ... the black taped portion at the top of the side screens would be removed... which makes the side screens much flatter when in the "wound-up" position...

good work there, well done!
i like the vent/scoop idea that follows the lines of your side window...i think that is an excellent idea
i also like the roof scoop extension but still think that the GTW is a much better design
i'm not keen on the front fins
i've always thought that there should be a moulding there to guide the warmer air around the sides of the cockpit rather than through the roof scoop, think Ferrari
but i would like to say again...well done!
now go and get treated for that sunstroke!

Happy New Year to you all on the Ultima forum!dom
Best idea since slice bread!! Rammed air, free galloping horses, cooling etc. Was never too sure about lower side scoops, plus extended air intake over cabin top was not quite aesthetically correct in my opinion. You have well in need of a good night out in Town to get your mind off these peripheral ideals of perfection - congrats......
For you who know.. yes I am still eagle eyed over the "Ultima Forum" met up with Mr Dunn the other day... excited as ever, not going to rush my decision....Have a list of mods a page long if I ever owned one.
