Carbon Fibre Sill pod inserts there made

Hi all

With reference to my previous post ‘Side Air Intake Scoops Clam Vents etc Goodies’ which got somewhat ‘taken over’. So due to this I done this new thread (mods if it ain't ok please let me know)

A few people mentioned ‘I should put my money where my mouth is’ as I had no actual Ultima carbon parts to show (only Evo parts on my site). I have got the molds made myself for the Side Pod inserts by one of the carbon fibre makers I use for my business.

They look amazing & ‘big’ I never realised that the area of the pods was so large. Great though as you can get more carbon fibre on show there. As you can see hopefully in my snapshots the quality is as good as it gets as I stated in my original post, so hopefully the people who weren’t sure about the quality of the carbon fibre I deal in can satisfy themselves. Oh yea they fit great, just silkfix in.

I have taken a few quick shots of them straight out of the box on my kitchen table, but sorry I can’t see how to post pics, so if anyone could post them up for me please let me know or email me on [e-mail] and I will send you some pics.

Since the original posting the price of carbon fibre has gone up a bit, but the carbon guys have said they will still do the first ten sets at the original agreed price of £230.

You need to 'Host' your pics somewhere like Photobucket or imageshack.
When they are there shown alongside the pic will be a file name something like
http://www.v8yes.co.uk/resources/coated+headers.jp...
back on here when writing your post paste that file name between [pic] [/pic]
And your picture will appear. There must not be any spaces between.
You can preview your post before submitting it to make sure it has worked.

Hi Billy

No need to open a photobucket account as your using picasa which is a web album.

Just right click on the pic and copy the URL and paste it between these [pic] [/pic].

yep, just right click on you images from picsa then down to properties, copy the whole of the "Address (URL)" section and paist between the [pic] tags as stated above.

have these been trimed to fit, is it posible to extend through to the wheel well

Hi Ryan

Thanks I will have a go. They come trimmed ready to slip straight in, we molded them straight off the body to try and get the best possible fit. We test fit every part we make to the squeeze we made before sending out. In my ‘normal’ business we always try & make carbon parts that look factory. We exclusively make carbon fibre parts for the new Evo X Group N factory rally cars for Ralliart & are an approved Mitsubishi Ralliart supplier.

The ones in your pic are mine as iam going to cutaway and making an opening in the side pods ‘scoop’ area. The inserts themselves are made to fit the opening exactly. So if you want to extend into wheel arch area, you could add a 'cowling' yourself. Iam going to put a black mesh over the 'opening' incase of stone chips & see how that works first. I am not sure yet as it’s not on the road yet, but I think their will be quite a lot of airflow just with the opening. Which iam assuming will help pull heat off the braking components although if a cowling was fabricated that would be even more efficient. We are doing quite a few mods to the body so as with most ‘new’ things with the Ultima its trail & error.

The inserts are available in both versions it depends if owners want them to be decorative or functional.

Very interested in the price but without looking a gift horse in the mouth £230 for a pair of carbon fibre ones is kinda cheap when you make mention of £685 a pair in carbon fibre & in GRP Gel coat £345 a pair on the photo hosting site.

Can you confirm price is £235 for a pair? (if you're one of the first 10)

Billy - whilst these are obviously going to be of interest to builders, you are using PH to advertise and given your involvement with evoworld, I really can't see how to seperate the two?

Can I ask exactly how you came up with the price? I used to make carbon fibre canopies for RC heli's (similar size, shape etc) and felt guilty flogging them for £40 due to the "large" mark-up on costs.

Obviously I'll never be a business man.

IMO it doesn't seem a bad price for quality carbon kit, a pair of carbon seats is £600 ex vat so simply in terms of size for size and taking into account economies of scale it seems ok. I know it's not quite the same but I've just had some very nice seats made up from GRP which cost £400 and seen carbon ones laid up at the same time, and working with carbon fibre is not easy or short in comparison to GRP.

I've got no link to Billy but I doubt he's making a great deal of cash out of these if any, I don't think this should be a discussion about whether these (or any other items that come up on the forum) are good value, you can always vote with your cash and/or have a go at making them yourself but it's no reason to put others off.
