215mph EVO in one mile shootout
Discussion
So I stumbled across this youtube video...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TPVe9VZpFE
And in the comments, I quote:
"Saw this car in person in Ely, NV at the Silver stage classic...Me and evileagle got to meet the owner (Mike Reichen)...car hit some oil and went into the ditch...s
t but she did like 213mph before that and stomped the competing turbo vipers, ultima gtr etc...bad ASS! Good job Mike and Adam...love the quarter master clutch you guys push!"
Really? STOMPED the GTR? Did Jeff run against this guy? [edit, yes he did, and nosed out Jeff for #1 spot by 2 mph]
The 2008 sandhills challenge one mile shootout (and open road) competition is this weekend in Arnold NE, come on down and show 'em some, Jeff!
And of course to get their goat afterward, let them know you're driving it home, not loading it on a trailer!

Yea, that Evo 2 smoked me.
I made a first pass on low boost did 211mph by my GPS, 210 official on radar.
Reichen in his Evo made a pass right after me, blew the engine at the finish line, crashed. Ran 211 official radar speed.
The event was shut down, I and no one else, were allowed to make another pass. shoulda been disqualified IMO for messing up the entire event, I drove 2500 miles to get there, only to make a single pass.
I did drive my car home, still running today with the same engine.
Reichen told me he had 10 engines, just rotates them when they blow. Oh yea, his turbo is mounted behind the front bumper, no exhaust whatsoever unless you consider the short 4" pipe out the front bumper.

EVO - Stripped out 1/4-mile drag car.
GTR - Air conditioned, beautiful, pump-gas street car.
EVO - Day one, the rear bumper few off pulling the kill-switch and holding up the event for 20 minutes. Took a while to figure out.
GTR - First ever to break the 200 mph mark at the event.
GTR - Day two, the makes a clean 200+ mph pass.
EVO - Crash, blown engine. Closed the event.
GTR - Day three, drives the 90-mile course but stops due to bad alternator.
EVO - Gone home in the trailer.
GTR - Today, running on the same engine.
EVO - Engine #6? #7? 8?
Michael was a nice guy, though. He let me use his fire suit which Jeff returned to him the following week. Their shops are a stone's-throw from each other.

Jeff, are you visiting Silver State again this September?
Never say never, but... Apparently the State of Nevada closed down the Sunday event at the last (May '08) running. There was a crash and it looks like about 40 cars didn't get to run (according to the results).Imagine how big a bummer it would be to travel 2,500 miles with your car, spend the weekend in the middle of the desert, and not be able to participate. Of course, some things are just not within your control.
