A few Ultima questions
Discussion
After a visit down to the factory, my mind was made up (like I needed convincing...) I WILL be building an Ultima GTR.
I plan to order my first parts in september/october, In the mean time I am researching to make future designs/desicions quicker and more simple.
I have notice that some GTR's have the shifter in the usual 'centre' possition, which transaxle is required for this? I prefere this idea to having it next to the door.
Has anyone made/tried to make a window opening kit?
What width/offsets are the wheels? I'd like to find some other options to be different.
Any other info from you guys who have already built one would be great.
Can't wait to start building.

I thought exactly the same myself about the gearchange location but also having been for a factory test run (and ordered) I decided on the side-shift. I concluded that with a centre change, any poor passenger risked several sharp elbow-digs during a quick performance demo as the seats are quite close!! I suppose it depends on the end use of the car and maybe resale value considerations too.
Having looked at a few build sites (GTR640.com etc) it seems that builders have fit the centre change to both G50 and Getrag boxes.

The centre shift comes with the Getrag 'box which is cable shift. It can be done with the G50 but the rods are more complicated and I suspect will produce a less competent shift.
The Getrag 'box gear ratios may not suit your setup and cannot be changed as easily as those in the G50.
The side shift is not a problem and adds to the race car feel. It is also quite a talking point.
