(RS4) Engine's Here
Discussion
Engine arrived...
Certainly a complicated bit of kit - I'm not sure what half the gizmo's on it do (some scribbling of part numbers and a week of internet research required methinks). Will junk anything that's not essential and see what we have left!
Also picked up an Audi 6-speed transaxle (01X) - keeps things simple and not too costly.
Guess there's some work to be done!

great news scotty. hope everthing works out well. look like this could offer an viable alternativve to the SBC/LS engine.
i just read this months PPC. there was an articale about the S4 with the twin turbo V6. might impresive engine and its missing two cylinders on the RS6 engine.
Cheers
Chris.

It's certainly physically bigger than the SBC, but I suspect it may be lighter - will fire them both on the commercial scales later!
I really want to take the engine back to its basic 'suck, squeeze, bang, blow' principles. The only 'fancy' bit that's getting to stay is the VVT - just need to make sure that my ECU is up to controlling that.
Not sure what the effects of taking all the fancy electrics etc off the engine might lead to (dead engine probably), but hoping that it won't lose any power... and praying that it might make some more power!
Time will tell.

[quote=Scotty-Boy]Engine arrived... think I got my £2k's worth
Obviously damaged parts (all nearside):
Exhaust manifold (not a big deal - it's getting junked anyway).
Starter (lost a mount - bit of a bugger as not cheap).
Cam Cover (small hole - should hopefully pick one up from a srappy).
Base of block (needs a cosmetic weld - bit chipped off at a corner that could do with a tidy).
Everything looks a-ok inside the cam covers, will take the sump off at the weekend to make sure there's no shrapnel in it.
Certainly a complicated bit of kit - I'm not sure what half the gizmo's on it do (some scribbling of part numbers and a week of internet research required methinks). Will junk anything that's not essential and see what we have left!

a) The Ultima is half the weight of anything else that the gearbox is used for.
b) The gearbox is used for Audi's TDI's which produce a lot of torque in a narrow rpm range.
c) The RS4 engine revs to 8250, so the power is spread out a fair bit.
d) A new one is cheap.

I'll weigh it again tonight to be sure.
Still having problems trying to find someone to defeat the immobiliser... Bosch UK were about as helpful as a chocolate fireguard and one guy down south wanted £4k to do it!!!
Am I right in thinking that not only are you a V8 transplanting genius, but you're also an electrical guru Hilly? Want to give it a crack?
