Ultimas at the Midlands Festival of Transport !
Discussion
Calling all Shropshire / Midlands / NW Ultima owners !!
If you are close to Telford / Wolverhampton you may well have been to the annual Festival of Transport at Weston Park (where the V festival is also held). This annual event attracts literally thousands of cars from pre war models to modern supercars. Several thousand visitors attend to see the cars, talk to owners, enter the councourse & best club events, visit the myriad of car marketstalls and watch the special events in the central arena. It really is a great day out for any petrolhead !
This year's event is on Sunday 23rd March. Now I have my own GTR on the road, and given that I have not seen an Ultima there in all the years I have been attending, I have picked up the 'phone to the organisers. They are very very interested in a group of us attending as a club to show our cars and are also keen to get us to drive our cars in the arena.
If you are interested in attending, please add your name to the list below. We only need three or four cars to get the chance to do the arena demo but there is no limit to the number of attendees. We could also enter for the best club award & the supercars category.
More detais to follow but I need rough numbers by the end of the week.
Main link to the festival is here.

Hi Dave, Russ and Kyle,
Been sent a form to fill in to secure our position at the event. Unfortunately we need to fill in one each with address etc. Paperwork, eh ?
Please can you go to
http://www.transtarpromotions.co.uk/
and click on the general vehicle entry form, print it out, fill it in and post it off. NB I have sorted out the small entry fee so no cash needed. I have entered us under the class of "exotic and special cars" and under the club "Shropshire Ultima Owners Club" (any other ideas welcome !).
Can you also email me a brief description of your car / build etc as I'm putting something together for the compere so he can tell everyone about the cars when we do our centre stage bit. I'll email you back the finished article later. My email is tony@ultimagtr640.com.
NB If any other Ultima owners want to attend, please come along but let me know soon if you want to join the group entry.
Cheers
Tony.

No worries Kyle, but remember you and Dave are welcome to join us at the Ultima hospitality tent on the day.
Martin and Russ, are you still "on" for Sunday ? I have my pass now (VP12), have you got yours ?
Arrivals are from 9am Sunday but it would be good to arrive in convoy - where are you guys coming in from ?
Kyle, with Russ not on PH at the mo I had better call him. I'll call you in a moment to get his number if that's okay.
Cheers

sorry to repost but Russ / Martin are you still coming on Sunday / Monday ? Please give me a bell / email.
Weather looks grim but I wil be going come rain / snow / gales (and we might have all of these!).
On a related note, do you recognise the red GTR on the front of the Shropshire Star and in the Wolves / Stafford Express & Star ? Shame the local paper just printed the photo (and weather warning) and left out the blurb about Ultimas and their performance records. At least I was offered a quick run around the park for my trouble (see ultima videos on the web update).

They should be posted on the sticky video link, but here's a shortcut just in case !

Just a final word on this thread, am acutely aware that I have 50% of the postings !
Sunday and Monday at the Festival of Speed were great. Enormous interest from everyone who turned up, plus a few accolades for the GTR. I'll sum it all in execu-bullet-points:
- Sunday. It rained and sleeted and rained some more. But over 1,000 enthusiasts turned up with their cars. Some great cars there, god knows how they kept them clean, as mine was coverd in cow s**t, mud, cr*p of all sorts. Had at least 20 kids in the driver's seat and am still cleaning the footprints off. But a truly great day that shows the passion of pistonheads who are happy to throw away a day of their time in atrocious weather for the love of their cars.
- Monday. Weather even worse, and a lot colder. Was there 8:30 till 1:00 and then had to head for the sanctuary of my GTR and (an hour later) a few "heart starters" at the Queens Head. Seriously cold, snow, plus 20 to 30 mile an hour winds.
- Ten out of ten to the polish girl in the pork-bap wagon for a) looking so great, b) keeping me defrosted with free coffee and c) saying that she thought the UK weather would be "worse than this" ! Where the hell did I put her number ?!?
- Lastly, there were some great write ups in the local papers plus quite a few photos. All good stuff. Will post on the web site soon. Took the organiser (John Chatwin, who has driven at Le Mans several times) down the road at Weston and he was very very impressed - a great compliment from someone who really knows his sports cars. Made my day.
Overall, a fantastic couple of days despite the worst of the weather. Will be back there next year !
