Help on Steering Wheel choice?

Guys,
This is another small but fairly significant subject that I believe is worth debate, considering the choice available. It would also help considerably if those out there who have made their choice, share this with us, along with the pitfalls and problems associated with picking the wrong one! Its not as if we can try and buy!
Although the Ultima Factory do offer their own version, which I am sure will do the job admirably, this is yet another opportunity for builders to add their own unique stamp on the end product. With this in mind, there are a number ot things to consider:
1: Diameter - bearing in mind the effort needed to turn the wheel for parking and the like.
2: Dish depth - to avoid bruised knuckles and to accomodate things like indicator modules etc
3: Crush zones
4: Detachable units
5: Anything else I haven't thought of!
So... can someone start with their deliberations, advice and anacdotes?

Hi the Keith, good to meet you the other day.
I use the OMP Kubic, see http://rallynuts.com/renderitem.asp?ctid=1780&... for an example. I spent ages thinging about this as well. I worried about the diameter being too small but actually I have been well pleased with it and never thought of changing it for something else. It has the advantage of making entry/exit easier, thus not having to bother with a removeable steering wheel, due to the flat bottom. As for the crush mount I used the factory supplied item, although I think it would be universal and available from most of the usual outlets.

Good meeting you as well! Apart from the pneumatic plastic dollytrons plastering almost every tyre stand and dressing up boring display, thought Pistonheads part of the show miles better than the Autosports main show...much more interest...for me!
...dunno...must be my age!

It is a flat wheel, which is fine even with my short/average arms. I would guess for standard stalks you would probably want more clearance thus opting for a shallow dished wheel. Those don't seem to stick out too much more so would not affect your seating position or comfort I would guess.
Perhaps we should have a gallary for each different areas of the car, as well as the overall whole car one we got now!?

I have been looking into getting a new wheel as well, at the moment I have a Momo Race which is 320mm and slightly dished. I'm looking at getting a flat bottom, no dish, I would like to colour code it as well with some red in it.
If you are going for stalks and lengthing the column you should be looking for a flat wheel to take the wheel away from you, there should still be enough room to clear the stalks.
