Dyno Session - Crazy Torque
Discussion
Hi All
I spent an exciting couple of hours on the dyno this morning. I couldn't manage a full power run because the clutch started to slip. Not that it will ever be a problem on the road as you could never supply that much load. And the reason it slipped was down to these figures.
The car made over 450lbs/ft at 1600rpm rising to 690lbs/ft at 4000rpm.
We had to stop the power run at 4600rpm due to the clutch slip but at it made 579BHP at 4,600rpm. Peak power should be around 5,800 so it will be well over 600BHP by then.
Am I happy with it! Too bloody right I am!
My tyres were totally destroyed but I don't care.
Regards Dave

Hi Mike
I did video the dyno projection on the wall but not the car. You can here the engine in the background. I will post it when I get chance. It all got a bit intense so I forgot about the camera. I had some blue flames this time. Looked like a jet fighter from the rear. We couldn't use the dyno extraction due to the monster flames. I'm going to leave the power as is for now and enjoy the car for a while.

That has to be the biggest understatement Dave, Have you been out today, -2.5 degC and not much warmer in the day ............. oh i think you'll be having fun, look forward to seeing the car again - in slightly warmer weather though.
Dave
Well done dave.
Try plugging your figures into this and you may be able to work out "what you could of won" - to coin a phrase..
http://www.not2fast.com/turbo/glossary/turbo_calc....
The pre-supplied figures are for my engine based on my datalogs, the only "guess" is the engine VE - you should be to work that backwards from your known outputs at the revs you got to.

At 579bhp at 4,600rpm it was pulling 11psi. At full power it should be around 14psi.

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments, its been lots of hard work but well worth the effort.
Hi Dave,
Just to echo everyone's comments. You've had some issues but stuck at it and have got the job well and truly done! My guess is you should have closer to 700bhp than 600bhp. Awesome !!
May be off-line for a while until post xmas (PC problems) so have a good one everyone and see you on the road / runway / drag-strip in 2007!

Have a good xmas and new year mate! I hope to get the car to the drag-strip come spring. Lots of plans for the car 2008. Traction and launch control to finish off over the winter months. The hardtop is going to be the biggest job. I need that in time for the trip to France in May.
All the best!

Dave, maybe you could sell a kit for anyone else looking to go from carb fed SBC to fuel injected, supercharged & chargecooled SBC!
Chris.
that would require adding up all the money spent on the project - which i suspect is either a well guarded secret or all evidence had been shredded and burnt!
Chris.
