fly wheel info

hi i don t no if any one could help me as i am to this site. i am rebuilding 383 chevy for a friend of mine who has just brought an ultima with an over heating engine with a bad vibration. is it normal for these cars to run a fly
wheel that stickes out from the crank by about 50 mm thanks jeremy

All depends on wether it's using a internaly or externely balanced crank.... Has the front Damper got any counter wieghts on it ??

morning clive it did nt have. and just waiting for a rotating asb to come from the states. idid nt explain myself very well. but the flywheel which was fitted was made up to bring the clutch about 50mm out the back of the motor to marry up with the short g50 input shaft. i would of thought have n that lot swing about so far out is not i deal for the motor. i am thinking of fitting a tilton triple plate and flywheel to suit.and milling the bellhousing on the box if needed to bring it closer to the motor.. thanks jeremy
