went to the Viginia waters meeting sunday.... good set of cars there, including 5 or 6 ultimas. Walked up to the small group of owners (you know who you are!) and expected to hear the usual conversations - 0-60 times, drag strip times, top speed, how to do a dough-nut in the car part, as usual.... but no......... the full on topic of conversation was .... from a set of full on Ultima drivers I remind you....... Fuel economy !.... yep how to get more miles to the gallon from an Ultima....

This kind to talk must stop now! Its the thin edge of the wedge! Next will be an topic about how to remove an LS7 engine and install one of those set-ups from a prius!

You know who you are...... shame on you!

It was me! But the I have done around 50 vmax runs at 5 mpg! Quite happy if I get close to 20mpg on the motorway.

Maybe, it's time to switch over to the LS7.

In fairness it was not just idle chat about how fast fuel leaves the tank. Both Guy and myself are working (slowly) towards fitting EFI. In my case I'm looking towards it providing an engine that is easier to live with rather than just economy in the cruise.

Having said that it will not answer having to stop at the roadside on route home to tighten the bolts on the exhaust manifold.

I'm definatlly worrying about fuel consumption in the GTT as I only have an 80litre tank and 13mpg didn't go far in the Ultima.

Talking about tanks..... I've just made mine and the foam is only guarenteed for 5 years and say you should replace it then as after this it starts to break down! anyone who has a 10yr + old ultima checked theirs?

I bought my Ultima tanks in 1997. Filled with fuel ever since. No problems so far........ also I get good fuel miles (except when on a track day at good wood which did work out at 3 mpg.) but on a run its well in the 20's. Went all the way to Lemans on less than one fillup!

yep.. still I get 12 sec qtr mile runs and 170mph easy though. Which is enough for me. Thinking of changing to a nice diesel !

^ Unless it is installed in a chassis that is capable of transporting you and two labourers, .6m of ballast, 8 X bags of dust and all of your concreting gear, such a thing does not exist I am afraid wink,
( A 'nice' diesel that is ).
