Speedo's not registering my speed until I hit about 35 mph then it 'jitters' into life and from about 40mph + works fine. It's also about 10% high at higher speeds according to GPS. Any ideas how to fix ? Do I need to do something like lessening the gap in the sensor ?

Hi Andy, when i was helping a friend with his GTR we found that the castellation on the disc needed to be about 1mm away from the sensor - worth just checking that.

You should check the spec for the sensor. My speedo was dropping out at 165+ mph, when I checked my gap was about 0.75mm, the spec said 2.5 to 3.5, putting a 2mm alloy spacer in made all the difference. With VR sensors too close is as bad as being too far away!

And still time to catch a glimpse of the speedo too ?

Had a similar problem with the needle flicking at speeds above 90mph. Gapped the sensor to 1.5mm and still had the issue. Then I took the sensor off and noticed that the front of the sensor had been clipped by the toothed wheel on the drive shaft at some point in it's life. Replaced the sensor £50.00 plus VAT from Ultima and regapped again to 1.5mm. The problem has gone away.

Another cause is very simple: My speedo worked well until one day it made the same stupid jittering than yours....As I looked after it I found a bit of tire abraison and dirt of the street on and around the sensor. Just cleaned it properly and everything worked well again.

Interesting - I'll try some spring cleaning /scratch checks.

What's confusing me now is that I have noticed my Satnav (which is connected to the sensor too) is registering the speed OK at lower speeds.
