ProCharged Can-Am - The First Drive
Discussion
Hi All
After a sucessfull mapping session on my mates rolling road I can now start to get some miles on the new engine. My mates rollers can only measure up to 300 BHP at the wheels, and it hit that at 3,800rpm. That was fine as I didn't want to load the engine above 4,000rpm.
First thing on Sunday I fitted the front and rear clips and fired her up for the first drive. Some people are saying it sounds like a bike due the the high pitched noise it now makes. From inside the car the induction noise and shrill of the supercharger makes itself known. I can also hear the air coming from the bypass valve as it dumps to atmosphere. Under steady acceleration and cruising speeds the bypass valve stays open due to engine vacuum. After a few miles I drove back home to check all was well. After a quick check over the car I took it back out on the open road. This time I decided to accelerate harder to 4,000 rpm in each gear. As the revs start to build and I open the throttle the bypass valve closes and suddenly it all goes quite and I am launched down the road. I am in second gear and grab 3rd then 4th, 5th and then 6th each time short shifting at 4,000rpm . 4,000 in 6th sees me at 100mph. As I hit 100mph I got a fit of histerics and couldn't stop laughing. This thing is nuts

. 2nd bit.
As I was crusing along I could feel something hitting my elbow. It was the carbon side pod cover. I don't have luggage containers in my side pods and it was the air coming from the bypass valve that was pressurising the whole side pod. I might have to point the air somewhere else. I can't wait til I've got this thing run in and fully mapped.
I'm sad to say that I'm not going to be able to meet up with the convoy on Sunday as I don't want to risk the engine and I have yet to fit an oil cooler. My plan is to drive the last 10 miles or so into Stoneleigh. My support vehicle Thunderbird 2 (Nissan Navara with trailer) will carry me most of the way.
Hope to see you all on Sunday.
Regards Dave

Warwick is only 15 miles from the show.
If you have ever been in a convoy you will know that the bigger it is the slower it ends up going.
The objective is to arrive together and that is going to take quite some effort on everyones part so there will be no manic drives or ragging.
Join us you know you want to.

Warwick services are closer than I thought! If things continue to go well with testing on Friday and Saturday then I'll meet you all at the services on Sunday! I'll keep you informed!
