There are 2 batwings. Early compact 1 piece item and later a 2 piece item, an expensive evolution but very pukka and costly to make. Both are probably to wide but I don't have an ultima. Early item is easy to modify though. GM superceded the later and better bat wing with the ls2 item claiming the ls2 item was better anyway. The ls2 pan is conventional, like a camaro pan but it has 3 baffles inside to counteract lateral g forces. I think it is better then the camaro item and if there's nothing under the engine then it'll fit. I don't believe it's better then the bat wing jobbies, just a lot cheaper to produce.

the bat wing on my 98 vett motor would not fit at all. The motor mounts on the frame where in the way. I have the standard sbc chassis from the factory not the lsX version.

That's an early engine so it's safe to assume that later batwings won't fit either.

The gto pan does not fit. Could be made to fit and I like it better than the Camaro pan because it has a full scavge screen below the crank. Unfourtunatley the two forward corners of the GTO pan interfere with the frame by about 3/16 of an inch on both sides from 1/2 way up from the bottom for about 2 inchs. This could be easily milled out and welded. When I got to this point I had other problems and a Camaro pan on the shelf so the decsion was easy. I also have both late and early Corvette pans on the shelf and I disagree with someones comment, that they might be better for high G apps. They were built very shallow to provide ground clearence and I could see the corvette pan starving quicker than the GTO OR Camaro pan. All of these pans are well built castings with very well enginered traps and sumps they even have a oil level sensor that will operate a dash light as a warning. hope this helps Lee

Are the Corvette Split batwings any shallower than the other pans ???
Not by much but if you need clearance then there's a small gain to be had, less then 1" but I can measure them if need be. The vette pans have had more design input, imo. After all, it's a vette and a vette pulls G's. I'll try to upload a pic sometime showing the 2 pans later. Anybody off roadingand after depth should look for a truck pan, deeper then the camaro item.
Here you go:
Vette pan clearly costs a lot more to produce then the Camaro especially in 2 piece guise.

It's a lot cheaper to make though!
