Can someone explain the workings of the heater pipes?
I know that if you do not have a valve in the pipe from the water pump, then hot water from the engine will circulate through the pipes and the matrix and back again.
I have installed a heater valve in the engine bay (yes electronic) but it only blocks the pipe from the engine to the heater matrix when activated, does hot water still find its way to the matrix from the other pipe? The H bypass is incorporated in the valve.
I ask this as my heater pipes running along the passenger side pod were hot last weekend even though the valve was closed. I would have thought that these pipes would be cool.

Conduction?
Here's a shot in the dark: Fire it up again and check both the pipes. If they both heat up gradually (over 10+ minutes) when the engine is at temp then its good old conduction. If the flow pipe gets hot real quick and the return pipe follows suit a minute later then your valve is faulty and you still have water flow there. Isolating both pipes might not help if conduction is the problem as the valves conduct heat as well (may be slower depending on the material the valves are made of). But then we're getting paranoid!
