Hi folks,
Have managed to arse up my oil filter whilst final fitting the oil cooler sandwich plate - well, I've put a dent in it whilst removing it. It's probably okay but I don't want to risk bits of filter metal in my engine. Do you know where I can get one in the UK ? It's a standard Amerspeed filter on a 7 litre V8 (all 642 bhp of it!
).
Roll on engine start later this week if I can get one. Will post a vid if it starts !
On an unrelated note, do most of you go to Ultima for the SVA or do you go to your local SVA station yourself ? I know that Ultima will do a (free) nuts and bolts check but, this aside, I know that the speedo needs calibrating and I haven't got the foggiest. I'll probably go Ultima check then Ultima SVA at Nottingham but it would be nice to turn up at the SVA place in Shrewebury (only 10 mls away) myself
Thanks
Tony.

If the filter only has a dent in it then leave as is. You will be replacing it after 300 miles anyway.
I took advantage of the Factory checkover and found afterwards that they had done all sorts of minor things that I was not aware of like the battery positive terminal has to be covered. There were many other things under the dash where sharp edges had been covered.
I found it easier for them to do both the SVA and registration. Both the SVA test station and the DVLA office know the car so well it must almost rate as a free lunch.

Oil filter, as above.
SVA........Mmmmmmm. After taking the GTW to Nottingham in person ( twice I might add! ) based on the logic that the factory always go there so they know what they are doing, I would say that this is not always the case, very much depending on which tester you find yourself with on the day. If you are not really bothered about being 'hands on' SVA and have a medical condition of any sort, get the factory to do it all for you, it is far less stressful. I was lucky in the end as my allocated inspector was in retrospect a help and coupled to the fact that I was able to rise to the challange and prevail, made the whole episode seem wothwile. Whatever route you may choose, good luck.
