ProCharged Can-Am : MOT next week
Discussion
Hi All
The car is almost ready for its MOT. I've got it booked in next Tuesday at a local independant TVR specialist. It's the cars first MOT. Are there any issues people have had in getting an MOT on there Ultimas. My logbook has my emissions written on it at 3.5% CO and 1200 PPM on the hydrocarbons. I'm taking the car to my mates rolling road on Saturday just to check the emissions and adjust if necessary.
Regards Dave

....I am looking to get my first MOT very soon but my V5 has absolutely no emission related data on it, a mistake by the DVLA according to Ultima. It will be interesting what I get tested to!........
Mine is booked for MOT on 21/4/7. Have to stay with it to show them where all the controls are.
My V5 has nothing stated against the emissions box but in box 3 Special Notes on the front page it has the SVA date and the statement Emissions - Visual test only.
Are you looking in the right place on your V5?

My 350 chevy running megasquirt with closed loop 14.7afr (Lambda 1.0) - got around 250 ppm and 2.5% so you should be fine if you can get your afr / lambda down - which would be an easy pass if i needed to worry about such a thing (I had to talk the MOT tester into putting his probe on it)

I take it the motor has now been mapped and is going well?
Will we be seeing you @ Warwick Services on the 6.5.07?

Hi Wayne
Things are going well at the moment. Mad rush this weekend to get all the small jobs done for the MOT. Next weekend (21st-22nd) will be spent on-road mapping and the weekend after on the 28th the car is booked in for a rolling road session to do some tweeking. I'll then be getting as many miles on the motor as possible before Stoneleigh.
All things being equal I will meet you all at Warwick Services at 0830hrs on 6.5.07.
Regards Dave

I have just booked my first MOT for this Saturday. They are going to check the emissions before hand so I can tweek the fueling if needed, but I will be a little nervous for sure.
I dont think you will have a problem TBH. Generally i find mine ticks over better with a rich mixture (12:1)! - but just out of interest i enabled 14.7:1 closed loop at idle and got them to test it - It was miles under.

Just a quick update: It passed the MOT. It was an 'interesting' time, I felt as nervous as I did at the SVA. Dropping the front on to the brake test rollers was scary as the front clip ended up being just less than 10mm of the floor!
Glad your car passed ok. I hope mine does tomorrow. I feel a long night ahead as I can't quite get the rear clip to close! Some arse has fitted a supercharger since I last had the rear clip on. It's the induction tubes that are hitting, it's 10mm off closing. Need to re-jig the tubing this evening. I drove it on and off the trailer on Saturday so all the rest of it seems to work. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Emissions are touch and go on the hydrocarbons due to my low compression. I had them down to between 1100 and 1300 ppm. CO was fine.

Dave, do you know of any other Ultima owners in our area? Hopefully i will be out and about throughout the summer and will be keeping an eye out for your beast, and any other thats may be around. I have been following your project, and it really is awesome.
Ps. I am based on the Wirral

Hi Rob
There is an Ultima based on the Wirral somewhere can't remember his name at the mo. Russell(Highflyer) lives the other side of Wrexham and he also has a Can-Am. Chewy lives in Blackpool and he races his GTR. I will be be in and around the Wirral plenty as my folks, brother and sister live on the Wirral.
Regards Dave
Yo, norbury90, give me a yell, I am just outside Wrexham if you fancy a run out during this fine weather, the Canam is out every evening and weekend weather dependent, been to Whats Cooking Heswell a few times. She has done 14,000 miles now and not missed a beat, so drop me a line if your out, cheers Highflyer
Hi Highflyer, thanks for the offer!
Unfortunately, i am not of a legal age of which i can drive yet!
so i am unable to come and see your car
However if you ever venture up my way (Neston), i would love to have a look at your car, as i have never seen one in the flesh!
If you still have the car next summer, i will be able to come and show you some real performance, in my 1.0 Volkswagen Lupo!

Sorry norbury90 I got the wrong end of the stick, thought you were an owner of an Ultima, if you want to see one in the flesh may I suggest Stoneleigh kit car show 6th and 7th of May, I believe there will be 20 or more Ultimas Canam's, Sports, Spiders, and GTR's, and every other kind of kit car as well, but of course the Ultima is the only one worth seeing !
