Now I can't wait for GM to make this a Crate motor, 650 bhp with no cam overlap and Emission legal... and such a nice charge cooler sat on top of the motor.... And I bet it's still under the $20K ...

It is supercharged, hence the chargecooler being integral to the plenum. I'd imagine the core to be removable. My plenum can do the same thing. I'd also like to see the throttle arrangement, I couldn't tell if it was a single or twin but I suspect it's a single. Imo that's probably not the finished item.

hes alreaady busy building 1000+bhp LS7 monsters for people. also think this is basically GM's idea of what the aftermarket guys have been dping for long time! i mean how long has the magy been out?????
the chargecooler looks bigger and better though.
what about the up and over intake runners?? anyone like to comment of how they will effect performance/emmisions compeard to the normal positive displacemnt style runners????

So the forums are saying the guy that took the photo's no longer has a job..
I don't think GM where to happy with him, as it's the new Corvette SS, and is way of the realise date yet.. Suspect 2009 so maybe crate motors in 2010..
I’m not sure weather I’m seeing this right. Looks like the supercharger – Roots style is mounted in the valley of the block, in such a manner that it takes in fresh air from the front of the engine, single fly-by-wire controlled throttle, forces it up into a plenum, the air is then split into what is effectively two charge coolers combined into the one unit. Half of the air then goes to one bank and the rest obviously to the other bank of the V8. after the charge cooler their appears to be two further plenums that are then feed the individual cylinder runners. Most of it looks to be alloy in construction which is a step backwards from the plastic manifolds if you are to believe the GM marketing.
Looks like a similar design to what is on the jag supercharged 8s, is this the same as the merc ones as well?
Ezakimak, how can you tell? I can hardly see anything apart from a plenum which looks very tall. Have you seen some info elsewhere? Also, looking at the cooler inlet piping I wonder how much space there is above the cores and how the air is fed up above? Need more pics, anybody?

boosted you can see the cold intake track runs down to the throttle body thats almost in the valley. also the drive pully (its just an idle pulley as the drive will be at the other end) sit very low!
compaer this to a magnumson (or whatever they are called) blower than sit up high and on display.
also the low slung is used by ford on their supercharged trucks and cars i think! think i also saw a similar set up on a supercharged champcar motor! lol

I think he is saying its under the plenum.....
Air in at front down low and into the SC... SC blows it upwards through a chargecooler that sits on top, then it comes down each side into the intake ports.
You can see the coolant lines going in at the front top of the chargecooler...

Thanks Crafty, that makes sense to me. Still looks very cramped though especially if the air flows through the intercooler as suggested. I wonder if they modded the 'V' of the engine to give the s/c more space if is under the plenum? The way I did mine was to have air flowing into a central chamber in the plenum and then going sideways through the cores and straight into the inlet ports. Ig GM put supercharger underneath the plenum it could feed upwards into the central chamber and be neat and simple to do. The vette layout looks complicated so I'd wonder if there's something else happening under that plenum lid.

i have seen ford using a similar layout and as said merc and jag layouts are similar. might have something to do with intake runner length. doesn't longer normaly mean better emmisions?????
still should be a cracking little motor! wonder what the bottom end will be like? heard the ford GT has a really stout bottom end and can take 1000bhp out the box!!

Could be Chris. I have very short runners so it's simple. GM will be thinking of all the variables, emmissions and a load of stuff. Wonder how long it will be before somebody can get a look in the lid and get a good picture of the s/c layout.
The cosworth 24v BOA engine also has a tortous inlet arrangement with 180 degree bends. Looks truly awful but must have been done for a reason.

Isn’t their some relation between valve angle to cylinder, and also the angle of the inlet runner hitting the back of the valve that effects power and emissions. If the runners were moved upwards toward the charge cooler I think you would get a fairly straight shot at the back of the valve.
I just went back to on old like that I had looked at, at that stage, it only had part 1, will have to read the rest, might be interesting.
